Obituary: Romance F. Carrier

Romance F. Carrier, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Jefferson City Health and Rehab in Jefferson City.

Romance was born July 26, 1935, in Wheeling, W.V., to the late George and Mildred Lorentz Frederichs. She attended the University of Michigan and received her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. Romance met the love of her life William L. Carrier at the University of Tennessee and they were married May 16, 1958. They moved to Oak Ridge, and she was employed with Union Carbide and retired from Martin Marietta in 1998, where she was employed as an information analyst. Romance and William enjoyed traveling with trips to Japan, Moscow, Italy, Puerto Rico, Canada, and many states here in the United States. Romance was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed painting and took many art classes after her retirement. She loved to read and spent time volunteering at Recording for the Blind here in Oak Ridge.

Romance is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, William L. Carrier of Oak Ridge, son Nathan Carrier of Wartburg, daughter Wendy Baxter and her husband Randy of Dandridge, granddaughter Brittany Gibson of Harriman, step grandchildren Amber Gass and Ashley Dance both of Dandridge, and step great-grandchildren Kaylee Dance, Dylon Dance, Izzie Gass, and Ellie Gass, all of Dandridge.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Sledge officiating. The family received friends prior to the service from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Jefferson City Health and Rehab and Smoky Mountain Hospice for the loving care given to Romance. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts be sent to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, INC. P.O. Box 10088 Knoxville, TN 37939-9910.
