Dennis James Farr, age 63, a resident of the Batley Community in Anderson County, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Farr was born March 1, 1950, in Morgantown, W.V. At an early age, his family moved to Mentor, Ohio.
Following his high school graduation, he entered into the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his military discharge, he began college at the Deep Springs College in California, receiving the first of several degrees. He later attended college in Texas, before completing his education in Ohio, where he received a master’s degree in both math and science.
Dennis retired from Cisco Systems Inc. in Knoxville as a software engineer. He enjoyed solving mathematical problems, and he was known for a patent he received for an Alpha Numeric Keyboard that he constructed. Other hobbies include long-distance bike riding and taking things apart and sometimes getting them back together.
Mr. Farr was preceded in death by his parents, David Edward Farr and Helen Rose Farr Henley.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Virginia Lloyd Farr of the Batley Community; by sons, Kevin Relford and wife Suzanne, of Oak Ridge, Charles Relford and wife Lisa, of Oliver Springs, and Eric Relford and wife Megan, of Essex, Md.; by grandchildren, Austin Williams, Cody Phillips, Caleb, Savanna, Tyson, Josh, Kevin and Dylan Relford, Carolina and Gabriel Relford. He is also survived by a brother, Greg Farr and wife Libby, of Cleveland, Ohio.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 27, between 1 and 3 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with pastor Luke Kidwell officiating.
Burial and graveside services, with full military honors, will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Little Community Cemetery on Bush Road, in the Marlow Community of Anderson County.
