Early voting begins today

Early voting began this morning for the Aug. 2 county general election and state and federal primary elections.

There are three early voting locations in Anderson County, one in Oak Ridge, a second in Clinton, and a third in Andersonville.

The Oak Ridge voting station is at the Midtown Community Center at 102 Robertsville Road.

Voters can cast ballots in Clinton at the Clinton Community Center at 101 Hicks St.

The third location, in Andersonville, is at the North Anderson County Government Center on Andersonville Highway at Andersonville Crossing.

The early voting booths are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, the Anderson County Election Commission said.

Early voting ends July 28.

Poll workers have lists of all Anderson County voters at all three stations, and any voter in the county can go to any location, the Election Commission said.

I’d like to encourage voters to take advantage of the early voting system, especially this cycle. Anderson County has redistricted many voters, much to my personal dismay, and so after thirty-plus years of voting at my local precinct I must now travel elsewhere. It will be confusing to some folks and early voting enables voters to vote at any early-voting location throughout the county. I have been a poll worker in the past, and having to turn away someone who has come to vote because they are at the wrong place is not a very nice thing to have to do, nor is it pleasant for the voter.

Make sure you get to vote for all the offices for which you are entitled. There was a “glitch” when I voted, but Mr Normand and Mr. Steele soon remedied the problem. Thanks to all the poll workers at Midtown. It may be fun for a couple of days, but it’s got to bore you to death toward the end. Thanks again.
