Wind chill advisory issued

Cold temperatures and wind chills below zero are expected Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.

The NWS issued a wind chill advisory starting 11 p.m. Friday and continuing through noon Saturday.

Temperatures were forecast to continue to fall quickly with most places in the single digits by Saturday morning.

“Below 0 wind chills are also expected late tonight (Friday night) through Saturday with most places barely reaching 20 degrees on Saturday,” the NWS said. “Temperatures Saturday night will fall to near or even below 0 in most places. A warming trend will follow into next week.”

Wind chills expected below zero

Wind chills below zero are expected through Tuesday night through noon Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.

A wind chill advisory went into effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will continue until lunchtime Wednesday.

The low Tuesday night is forecast at 1 degree Fahrenheit, with a wind around 5 miles per hour and wind chill values between -2 and -7.

The high on Wednesday is supposed to be near 28 with wind chill values between -8 and 2.

The low in Oak Ridge tonight (Monday, January 1) is forecast at 3 degrees Fahrenheit, and temperatures this week are expected to remain very low, mostly below freezing and dropping back down to 9 on Friday night, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.

A wind chill advisory is in effect from midnight to 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, including in Oak Ridge and Clinton.

“An Arctic air mass remains across the region with very cold temperatures expected to occur tonight,” the National Weather Service said. “The combination of the cold air and wind will result in dangerously cold wind chills between 5 below zero to 15 below zero.”

The very cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin, the Weather Service said. Wind chills could range from 0 degrees to 10 below zero in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. [Read more…]

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a wind chill advisory for Wednesday night and Thursday, with the wind chill forecast at five below zero to 15 below in parts of East Tennessee and southwest Virginia.

The wind chill advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Friday, and it applies to Anderson, Campbell, Morgan, Scott, and Union counties. It includes Clinton, Oak Ridge, LaFollette, Maynardville, Oneida, and Wartburg.

There is also a winter storm watch in effect from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, bringing a threat of wintry precipitation. [Read more…]
