This poor girl was matted and desperately needed help. Thanks to the kind person who had her groomed. She will smell and feel so much better now and grow her coat back beautifully.

Looking for a lap dog? Look no further! Elizabeth is a total lap dog. She just wants to sit quietly with you. She is a total cuddler. Came into the shelter on June 18 and is available for adoption today!

Pet of the Day: Dallas

Dallas is our featured pet of the day. He is a Corgi mix that appears to be about four years old. His sleek coat would be easy care, and he is very portable with his small body. The best part is that Dallas is available today for adoption.

Dallas was very suspicious of my motives when I took him in the cat room to get photographed, so he is giving me a bit of the stink eye, but he is a good boy that needs a home. I love his boxy jaw.

Do me a favor and share this little dog’s post. Let’s see how fast we can get Dallas adopted. Thank you in advance. [Read more…]

Tobias—what a perfect name for me! It’s the Greek translation of a Hebrew name that means “the goodness of God.”

I look like I may be an American Foxhound mix, around two, and I’m super friendly! I’m ready to be your forever friend! Better hurry!

Queen Neferkitty is a healthy senior looking for a loving forever home. She is a good girl who would prefer to be an only kitty. She has a healthy appetite, still likes some playtime, and likes attention. She does have a limit though and likes her space.

This girl was left in a box at the shelter. Please help us show her there is someone who will love her and never leave her.

Oak Ridge: Pets, hot cars are a killer combination

Oak Ridge Police Department Logo

Every year, the Oak Ridge Police Department receives numerous calls about pets left in parked cars during hot weather.

People may believe that a quick stop will not harm their pet. However, in those few minutes, the temperature in the car can reach 115 degrees on an 85 degree day, even with the windows cracked.

Dogs and cats cool themselves by panting and by releasing heat through their paws. On summer days, the air and upholstery in a vehicle can heat up to high temperatures that make it impossible for pets to cool themselves. [Read more…]

Why did they call me Spot? Because I am Spot-ON! I’m a fun puppy, maybe four months old, very trainable, and just an all around happy dude!

Wanna play? I am ready! I came in on the 20th and want the heck outta here NOW! I’m fun 🙂

Letter: Donation made to Animal Shelter in honor of Kuhaida

To the Editor:

Everyone can remember walking into high school first the first time and having that nervous feeling in the pit of your stomach. I remember walking into Oak Ridge High School after moving from New York a week earlier—knowing no one, having no idea where my first class was, with people that spoke differently than I did, with a huge teenage chip on my shoulder.

That first day, I was blessed to meet Valerie Becham, now Kuhaida. She had a glow about her and turned what started out as a horrible experience into a wonderful transition. From that first day of school, she welcomed me, and we started a fantastic and unforgettable friendship.

Valerie was one of the most compassionate, loving, energetic, and humble people I have ever met. She would do anything for anyone at anytime. Her four children were blessed to call her Mom and her greatest passion was her family. [Read more…]

One more big try for a little, tiny dog named Desperado. Please consider giving this senior dog a home. He is compact and does not take up much room, but I imagine he has a lot of love in that little heart of his. Please help us find him a home by sharing his photos.

“Poor old me! They named me Desperado, but I really don’t want to live life alone! I’m scared, but if you pick me up and love on me, all of the fright goes away.

“Do you have any idea how hard it is to be in a kennel with all of these big barking dogs? That’s what bothers me! Take me to your quiet home, love a senior, and you will be repaid 10-fold.” [Read more…]
