Healthcare employers invited to participate in Roane State job fair

Employers are invited to participate in a Feb. 27 job fair for Roane State Community College students who are pursuing careers in health care and plan to graduate this year.

The fair is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 2-5 p.m. at Roane State’s Oak Ridge campus at 701 Briarcliff Ave. Setup begins at 1 p.m.

Methodist Medical Center conducts assessment of local health needs

As a member organization of Covenant Health, Methodist Medical Center’s mission is to improve the quality of life for East Tennesseans through better health. One important way to carry out that mission is to collaborate with communities to determine local health needs, and to work with local organizations to develop and implement plans for addressing those needs.

In addition, recent healthcare legislation requires that Methodist and other not-for-profit hospitals and health systems conduct community needs assessments every three years. While the process is not explicitly scripted, hospitals are encouraged to collaborate with key community stakeholders such as health departments, universities, and organizations such as United Way and local Chambers of Commerce.

Limited adult, plenty of kids’ flu vaccine at Anderson Health Department

Information from WYSH Radio

Seasonal influenza vaccine is still available at the Anderson County Health Department. The flu vaccine will be offered during normal clinic hours at 710 N. Main Street in Clinton.

Call the Health Department at (865) 425-8801 to make an appointment to get your flu vaccine.

There are a limited number of adult shots remaining, but there is an ample supply of the vaccine for children.

MMC, DOE to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Hospital staff members and federal workers and contractors will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in two separate events on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and Monday, Jan. 21.

The U.S. Department of Energy Oak Ridge Office has its annual event Wednesday morning at the American Museum of Science and Energy.

The program is titled “50 Years Later: The Evolution of the Dream.” It’s scheduled from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and it’s open to the public.

Baby Lyric ‘Sings’ in the New Year at Methodist Medical Center

While many were singing “Auld Lang Syne” to cap off 2012 and welcome in the New Year, the delivery of 6 lbs., 15 oz. Lyric Kendall Phillips brought the sweet sounds of a new baby to parents Mandy Truax and Cody Phillips. Lyric made her debut just a little past midnight on New Year’s morning, making her the first baby of 2013 born at Methodist Medical Center—and the first new resident of Clinton.

New Year’s resolution seminar on health, wellness at Anderson Chamber

A Jan. 16 seminar at the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce will feature a fitness director who will discuss ways to keep health and wellness resolutions in the new year.

“Every year, millions of Americans make the New Year’s resolutions: increase physical activity, lose weight, eat better, etc.,” a press release said. “Unfortunately, after a few months of the new year, many of those Americans find themselves back into the old habits, and the New Year’s resolutions are done.”

During the seminar, Take Charge Fitness Director Anna Dark will “map out” how people can keep their resolutions and meet their wellness goals, the release said.
