The Anderson County Commission will have a special budget meeting on Monday afternoon. The meeting is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, in Room 312 of the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton.
During the special meeting, the Anderson County Commission will review the recommendations of the Budget Committee, discuss them, and then send the Commission’s recommendation’s back to the Budget Committee.

Meeting in a special-called session on Monday, the Anderson County Finance Committee voted to accept the resignation of Natalie Erb as the county’s finance director, effective May 23.
The Committee also voted to name Robby Holbrook, who is currently deputy finance director in charge of payroll, as the interim finance director upon Erb’s departure.
The third piece of business taken care of on Monday saw the Committee vote to authorize the Human Resources Department to begin the search for a new finance director by modifying the job description to incorporate the duties of the county purchasing agent.
[Read more…]The Anderson County Democratic Party will hold a Biennial Reorganization Convention to elect new leaders on Saturday, March 30, at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. Doors open for registration at 12:30 p.m., and the start time is 1 p.m., a press release said. Participants must be there by 1 p.m., or participation will not be allowed. Lunch and beverages will be provided, the press release said.
Local Democrats will elect a new chair, vice chairs, secretary, treasurer, and the Executive Committee for Anderson County to a two-year term. All Democratic residents who are eligible voters of Anderson County are urged to attend to discuss the party’s agenda and events for 2019-20, the press release said.
About the reorganization, Chair Megan McNees said: “The party reorganization is a vital part of the county party system. It provides our membership with the chance to voice their opinions and to have them be heard. These elections will have a direct impact on party governance and by extension the 2020 elections. Now, more than ever, it’s so important to be active in your government. It’s every citizen’s duty to pay attention and get involved. Attending our reorganization is an easy first step.”
During the reorganization, attendees will evaluate the effectiveness of their county party’s bylaws and leadership, the press release said. Each county party determines its own needs, elects new leaders, and enacts reforms to build a stronger grassroots organization, the release said.

The Anderson County Republican Party will elect officers of its Executive Committee on Thursday. The public is invited to attend, a press release said.
Elections will be held for the following positions: chair, vice chair, treasurer, vice treasurer, and secretary, the press release said.
The elections will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday March 21, in Room 313 of the Anderson County Courthouse at 100 North Main Street in Clinton.

The Anderson County Commission will meet Tuesday evening at the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton. Typically held on the third Monday of every month, this month’s meeting was moved back one day because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Among the items on the agenda include possible discussion of the need for a new roof at the county-owned building in Oak Ridge that houses Anderson County General Sessions Court Division II after rain water infiltrated the building and damaged records and equipment.
Other items of discussion will also focus on working with the City of Oak Ridge and Roane County on developing a strategy to move forward with a proposed hazardous material disposal site on the Oak Ridge Reservation. [Read more…]
The Anderson County Operations Committee will discuss the proposed U.S. Department of Energy landfill in a meeting this evening (Monday, January 14).
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton.
The proposed landfill is known as the Environmental Management Disposal Facility, or EMDF. It would be in Bear Creek Valley west of the Y-12 National Security Complex. [Read more…]
The Anderson County Commission will hold a workshop today (Monday, January 7), starting at 6 p.m., to discuss the U.S. Department of Energy’s proposed construction and operation of a new hazardous waste disposal facility on the federal reservation in Oak Ridge.
The purpose of the meeting is to allow commissioners, officials, and residents to provide comments before the deadline for public comment on Wednesday January 9, on the proposed Environmental Management Disposal Facility (EMDF). The deadline was pushed back to this month after officials requested more time to look over the information.

The Anderson County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a workshop for Monday, January 7, 2019, starting at 6 p.m. to discuss the U.S. Department of Energy construction and operation of a new disposal facility. The workshop will be held in room 312 in the Anderson County Courthouse at 100 North Main Street in Clinton, Tennessee.
Anderson County commissioners have been notified that there will be a workshop next week to discuss the 205 Main Street building in Clinton, which had been expected to be used for the Anderson County Senior Center, and to discuss the development of, and ideas about, the county’s senior program.
The workshop has been scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, at the current Senior Center location on Edgewood Lane in Clinton.

Anderson County Emergency Medical Services has responded to a deployment request from the state of South Carolina to aid in evacuations ahead of the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Florence.
Anderson County EMS is part of the Region II EMS Directors Association, which is comprised of 30 ambulance, fire, rescue, aeromedical, and hospital agencies located in 16 counties throughout East Tennessee.
The Anderson County team responded to South Carolina’s call for help with the “Ambus,” a regional asset from Region II EMS Directors Association, that is housed, maintained, and operated by Anderson County EMS, a press release said.
The Ambus is designed to accommodate 20 or more low-acuity patients from one location, the press release said. It is not designed for the most critical patients, although the unit can adapt to any situation that is encountered. The transport kit was provided by the state and installed into a school bus donated by Morgan County Schools. [Read more…]

Newly elected and re-elected Anderson County commissioners were sworn in Tuesday morning at the Courthouse in Clinton.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, commissioners held a brief meeting during which they elected Tracy Wandell to serve as the next chair of the Commission, succeeding Tim Isbel.
