A Mattress Firm store is now open on South Illinois Avenue.

The store is near Panda Express, a relatively new restaurant that is, like, Mattress Firm, on property that was once home to a Ruby Tuesday restaurant near Walmart, Rutgers Avenue, and Main Street Oak Ridge.

On its website, Mattress Firm says it has more than 3,500 company-operated and franchised stores across 49 states and the largest geographic footprint in the United States among multi-brand mattress retailers. The company was founded in 1986, and it is based in Houston.

Mattress Firm says it is the nation’s leading specialty bedding retailer, and its brands include Mattress Firm, Sleepy’s, and Sleep Train. The company says it also offers a broad selection of both traditional and specialty mattresses, bedding accessories, and other related products from leading brands and manufacturers, including Serta, Simmons, Hampton & Rhodes, and Dream Bed.

It’s one of 14 new stores, restaurants, and businesses that have opened in the past year or are under construction at or near Main Street Oak Ridge, the 58-acre project to redevelop the former Oak Ridge Mall.

Besides Panda Express and Mattress Firm, other new businesses at or near Main Street Oak Ridge include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Electronic Express, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, maurices, PetSmart, Rack Room Shoes, rue21, The Spa Lounge Lash & Nail Studio, T.J. Maxx, TownePlace Suites by Marriott, Ulta, and World Finance Loans & Taxes. Eleven of those new businesses are at Main Street Oak Ridge, where they join Belk and JCPenney, the two remaining mall anchors.

In addition to those businesses, construction work started this month at the new American Museum of Science and Energy at Main Street Oak Ridge.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
