Construction work is under way in the small shopping center that will house a Panda Express restaurant and retail shops where Ruby Tuesday used to be on South Illinois Avenue.

Here are three photos of the work on Friday, February 10.

The former Ruby Tuesday restaurant was demolished in October.

A site plan for the Panda Express restaurant and retail development has been reviewed by the Oak Ridge Municipal Planning Commission.

Panda Express will be on the one-third of the subdivided Ruby Tuesday property that is closest to the Subway on South Illinois Avenue. The developer is Rudd Seeley Wallis LLC. That’s the Nashville company that developed the shopping center on South Illinois Avenue that includes Chipotle and Aspen Dental.

The other two-thirds of the former Ruby Tuesday property is expected to include about 6,500 square feet of retail space. That’s about 40 percent the size of the Chipotle/Aspen Dental shopping center.

It’s not clear when Panda Express might open. Panda Express is a fast casual Chinese restaurant. The new development is near Main Street Oak Ridge, the 58-acre project to redevelop the former Oak Ridge Mall. (See photos of the Main Street Oak Ridge project here.)
