A water main break damaged West Outer Drive near Mississippi Avenue on Tuesday, officials said.

On Wednesday, the Oak Ridge Public Works Department urged residents and visitors to use “extreme care and caution” while driving in that area.

In order to repair the water main break on Tuesday night, extensive damage was caused to the roadway, a press release said.

“Due to the impending weather, it is unclear whether the asphalt will be able to be repaired today (Wednesday, July 6), but will be completed as quickly as possible,” the press release said. “Thank you for your cooperation and patience while this work is being done.”

More information will be added as it becomes available.
