ORAU’s Timmerman receives DOE Small Business Award

The U.S. Department of Energy presented ORAU’s Heidi Timmerman with its Facility Management Contractor Procurement Director of the Year award for fiscal year 2014 at the 14th Annual DOE Small Business Forum and Expo in Phoenix on Wednesday.

The award recognizes ORAU’s subcontracting achievements with small business suppliers used to support work performed under the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education contract that ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated Universities) manages for DOE.

In FY14, ORAU committed to awarding 71 percent of its subcontracts in support of ORISE work to small businesses, and it exceeded that goal when more than 78 percent of subcontracts were awarded to small businesses, a press release said.

According to DOE’s website, the award winner “has displayed leadership and commitment to maximizing small businesses utilization through policies, procedures, outreach, and creating an atmosphere of ‘small business first’ throughout their organization,” and the criteria for the award was “based on a balance of objective results-oriented measures and creating/implemented policies, programs, and practices promoting small business.”

Timmerman has served as director of procurement and contracts administration since joining ORAU in 2009. She held other leadership roles in procurement and contracts management in the commercial sector in addition to serving as a U.S. Marine Corps captain and holding several titles while in the military, including company executive officer, department head, and civil process supervisor.

“We are honored for Heidi to receive this recognition from DOE on behalf of ORAU for our efforts in providing opportunities for small businesses to work with us on critical DOE projects,” said ORAU President and ORISE Director Andy Page. “We strongly believe that small businesses are crucial to fueling a robust economy and in building this nation’s entrepreneurial spirit.”
