International Festival is Saturday at Children’s Museum

The International Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 28, at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge. The festival will include the same entertainment line-up, food, and culture booths originally set for last weekend.

It was postponed last weekend (Saturday, February 21) due to weather conditions.

The International Festival will feature entertainment, crafts, and cuisines from cultures around the world, with Spice of India Dancers as the featured performers. The family-friendly event will feature musical, song, and dance entertainment on stage throughout the day, international food and culture booths, and crafts for children to make.

The festival will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. February 28 at the Children’s Museum. Food will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Children will be invited to make and take Chinese dragons, Japanese geisha masks, and Indian elephants at craft stations during the festival, as well as crafts at several International Bazaar booths.

The entertainment schedule is:

  • 10-10:15 a.m.—Kung Fu Demonstration, Taotao Long
  • 10:15-10:45 a.m.—Lucia’s Arte y Pasion Flamenca Dance
  • 10:45-11:15 a.m.—St. George Greek Dancers
  • 11:15-11:35 a.m.—Scottish Bagpipes with Andrew Payzant
  • 11:35-11:55 a.m.—Knoxville Persian Music Ensemble, with Brandon Beavers
  • 11:55 a.m.-12:05 p.m.—Allen McBride on Hammered Dulcimer
  • 12:05-12:35 p.m.—Spice of India Dancers
  • 12:35-1 p.m.—The Starving Six Band
  • 1-1:30 p.m.—German, Austrian, and Slovenian Polkas and Waltzes, Nermin Begovic on Accordion
  • 1:30-1:45 p.m.—Tenpenny Rapper Sword Dancers
  • 1:45-2 p.m.—Cantemos, South American Music with Kukuly Uriarte
  • 2-2:30 p.m.—Spice of India Dancers
  • 2:30-2:45 p.m.—Tenpenny Rapper Sword Dancers
  • 2:45-3 p.m.—Early Bird Special
  • 3-3:30 p.m.—French Swing with Kukuly Uriarte
  • 3:30-4 p.m.—Chinese Ribbon Dancing with Bob Grimac

Entertainment in the Appalachian Exhibit will be:

  • 10-11 a.m.—Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club
  • 11 a.m.-noon—David Neidig and Tom Smith
  • 12:10-1 p.m.—Allen McBride on Hammered Dulcimer
  • 1-2 p.m.—Early Bird Special

Food booths will have dishes available to purchase from China, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Ukraine, and Venezuela culture booths will represent Appalachia, Belgium, China, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Roane State International Community, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

Admission to the International Festival is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $10 for children 3-18, and $1 off each category for museum members. For more information, call the Children’s Museum at (865) 482-1074, ext. 105, or see the Children’s Museum website at www.childrensmuseumofoakridge.org.
