Dangerously Cold Wind Chills

Students at Oak Ridge Schools will return to class on Wednesday, rather than Tuesday, and the Keys to College press conference that had been scheduled for Monday afternoon has been rescheduled due to the weather. And the Anderson County Schools Central Office is closed Monday, officials said.

As reported earlier, Roane County Schools are closed Monday.

The Oak Ridge Schools’ press conference on the Keys to College and Career Readiness program has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Oak Ridge High School lobby.

The Oak Ridge Board of Education meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday will proceed as scheduled.

The in-service day for Oak Ridge Schools staff will take place on Tuesday, rather than Monday.

Meanwhile, the Anderson County Courthouse and Circuit and General Sessions courts are operating on their regular schedules, but the Juvenile Court docket has been canceled, Circuit Court Clerk Tyler Mayes said in Facebook posts.

Weather forecasters are calling for snow and bitter cold through Tuesday, and Monday night could be the coldest night in more than a decade. Wind chill values near Oak Ridge are expected to fall to between -3 and -12 on Monday night as winds gust as high as 25 mph, the National Weather Service in Morristown said Sunday evening. Tuesday is forecast to be sunny and cold, with a high near 17 and wind chill values between -2 and -12.

See these lists of delays and closings by the Knoxville News Sentinel and WBIR-TV for more information on school and office closures.
