An Anderson County man indicted for homicide last week in the death of a Lake City woman who allegedly fell from his vehicle last year was arrested today, authorities said.

An investigation showed that Martha Rose McGhee, 33, of Lake City, fell out of a vehicle driven by James Wylie, 54, of Clinton, on Cobb Hollow Road just outside Lake City on Sept. 12 and hit her head, causing her death, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a Tuesday press release.

Wylie and McGhee were reportedly friends, the TBI said.

Wylie was indicted last Tuesday by the Anderson County grand jury on one count of criminal homicide, one count of kidnapping, and one count of leaving the scene of a death or personal injury.

He was arrested by the TBI and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office at about noon Tuesday.

The TBI statement said 7th Judicial District Attorney General Dave Clark had asked the TBI to investigate along with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Wylie was booked into the Anderson County Jail on Tuesday afternoon on a $500,000 bond.

WYSH Radio reported in September that McGhee had been seen arguing with a man in a minivan in the parking lot of a Lake City business. Witnesses reported following the vehicle as it left the parking lot, and they told investigators it gained speed as it reached Cobb Hollow Road. McGhee was reportedly found lying on the side of the road on a sharp curve.
