A city contractor is completing work on new flashing warning signs on Melton Lake Drive at three pedestrian crossings near the Oak Ridge Marina on Melton Lake Drive. The three crossings are at Amanda Drive, Rivers Run Boulevard, and just west of Emory Valley Road.
The flashing beacons could be become operational Thursday, a city press release said. The beacons are activated by a push button and will flash for a short period of time, allowing pedestrians to cross the street.
“The safety improvement should increase the percentage of vehicles that will stop for pedestrians waiting to cross the street,” the press release said. “When a pedestrian activates the push button, proceed with caution only when there are adequate traffic gaps or when vehicles in both traffic directions have stopped.”
The work is being done by First Place Finish Inc. of Oak Ridge under a contract with the city.

Thank you COR. Maybe more traffic-enforcement cameras would help. Some people seem to feel entitled that they can speed and run stop lights/signs.
