An Anderson County man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly robbed a credit union in Oak Ridge.
The alleged robbery of Enrichment Federal Credit Union on South Illinois Avenue was reported at about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Joshua Ryan Hutchins, 27, was arrested less than seven hours later, just before midnight, by the Seventh Judicial District Crime Task Force.
According to a court affidavit, Hutchins allegedly entered the credit union during the Tuesday evening robbery and presented a note to a teller that said, “This is a Robbery…”
The teller, who was in fear, complied with Hutchins’ demand and placed an undisclosed amount of cash in Hutchins’ hand, said the affidavit, which was filed by Oak Ridge Police Department Detective Kevin Craig.
After getting the cash, Hutchins left the bank in a white older-model Oldsmobile sedan, the affidavit said.
Hutchins was identified as the robbery defendant by comparing surveillance footage to his driver’s license image, and he was identified by people known to law enforcement officers, Craig said. The older model Oldsmobile seen leaving the robbery is consistent with the 1995 Oldsmobile owned by Hutchins, Craig said.
Hutchins has been charged with robbery, a Class C felony.
Before his arrest, the Oak Ridge Police Department had released surveillance photos and physical descriptions of the robbery suspect and the car he left in.
Officers have learned more through their investigation of the robbery, Craig said, but he only disclosed what he needed to in the affidavit in order to establish probable cause.
On Tuesday, a press release said the robbery is being investigated by the ORPD and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Hutchins remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Wednesday afternoon. His bond and first court date have not been set yet, according to records in Anderson County General Sessions Court.
