To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of Phil Yager, candidate for County Commission in the Eighth District. In the past year, I have come to know Phil, and having attended the recent Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce Candidates Forum and listening to Phil discuss his experience, education, and volunteer spirit, he is the best candidate to represent our district on the Anderson County Commission.

Phil and his wife have been homeowners in Oak Ridge since 2006. He has a B.S. degree in Business Administration and has had a 30-year career in the investment industry. His background in financial management will be a great asset to the County Commission. He also has experience in the areas of mediation and arbitration, having served as Director of Mediation and Arbitration for the Better Business Bureau. This position gave him experience in conflict resolution and will enhance his ability to work with other commissioners and city, county, and state official to facilitate positive opportunities for our residents.

Community involvement is obviously important to Phil. He was appointed by the Oak Ridge City Council to serve on several committees, including the Industrial Development Board, the Board of Housing Code Appeals, and the Charter Review Committee. Phil is also on the Department of Energy Oak Ridge Site Specific Advisory Board. He serves on the Board of Directors, as Treasurer, of the Emory Valley Center and Emory Valley Center Foundation. He has also volunteered for such organizations as Keep Anderson County Beautiful, Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program, Oak Ridge Playhouse, United Way of Anderson County, and the Oak Ridge Rowing Association. Phil has demonstrated a tireless devotion to his community, and is always willing to help out and give back.

Phil is fiscally conservative but is ever mindful of the quality of essential services that the citizens of Anderson County have come to rely on. He believes that county government should provide these services as efficiently as possible. His experience in the financial field will complement the skills and backgrounds of the existing commissioners.

Phil Yager would be a tremendous asset to Anderson County government and would represent well the interests of the Eighth District. I urge voters of the Eighth District to cast their ballot for Phil in the August 4 election.
