Lower fire classification in Clinton could lower home owners’ insurance premiums

A lower community classification for Clinton and its fire department could translate, overall, into reductions in insurance premiums for home owners, a press release said.

The Insurance Services Office Inc., or ISO, notified the city and the Clinton Fire Department of the new community classification, which is 02/2X. That’s lower than the previous classification of 4, the press release said.

The new classification follows a recent analysis of the structural fire suppression delivery system for the City of Clinton.

“This lower community classification means that overall, home owners in the City of Clinton will see a reduction in their homeowner’s insurance premiums during future renewal periods,” the press release said. “The ‘2’ classification applies to the majority of the city residents that are within five miles of a fire station and within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant, while the ‘2x’ classification applies to the few residences and structures that are outside the 1,000 foot distance from a fire hydrant.”

In the press release, City Manager Roger Houck and Fire Chief Archie Brummitt said they appreciated the support of the mayor and Clinton City Council in supporting the budgetary needs of the Clinton Fire Department’s mission, and for allowing the much-needed improvements that led to the lowered community classification.

“They would also like to thank the members of the Fire Department for their performance in continuously providing a professional service to our citizens and the community,” the release said.

Additional information regarding this announcement will be provided at the January meeting of the City Council.
