The Oak Ridge Youth Advisory Board will host Turkey Bowl Disc Golf on Sunday.

It starts at 2 p.m. Sunday at Groves Park Disc Golf Course on Tuskegee Drive. That’s the former South Hills Golf Course site.

The event is part of Oak Ridge’s Playful City USA initiative. Participants of all ages are welcome to try this sport, which is growing in popularity, a press release said. Free “Turkey Bowl” logo discs will be provided to participants while supplies last.

“Disc Golf is growing in popularity and it is a great activity for families. We have two courses here in Oak Ridge and it is free to play, 365 days a year,” Recreation and Parks Supervisor Matt Reedy said. “At Carl Yearwood Park, we have a small, but challenging nine-hole course. At Groves Park, you will find a mix of open and wooded 18 holes on 46 acres of land.”

Permission to participate is required for minors, and forms will be available at the course.

The Turkey Bowl is hosted annually on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The YAB is sponsoring cash prizes for first, second, and third place for participants ages 18 and under. You can also find tips and rules information on the sport by visiting www.pdga.org.

If you have questions, contact Matt Reedy at (865) 425-3442 or visit the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department website at www.orrecparks.org.
