Information from WYSH Radio

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fire that destroyed a mobile home on Old Lake City Highway as suspicious.

The Medford Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of the fire at around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

A neighbor told firefighters and deputies that earlier in the night a woman had come to his home yelling that there was a house on fire. The neighbor reported seeing a man and a woman running from the burning house who he said then jumped into a black SUV and drove off. He said he did not recognize either individual.

The woman who alerted him to the fire said she was coming by the house to pick up some of her belongings and that she knew the home’s owner Homer Carroll.

Deputies found what is believed to be a gas can inside the front door of the mobile home, but at this time the exact cause of the fire has not been determined. The CID will follow up.
