Christopher J. Marczak
A Nashville school official has been named assistant superintendent in Oak Ridge.
Christopher J. Marczak will become assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Oak Ridge Schools on July 1. He is currently employed as a network lead principal in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School system.
Marczak was selected from a field of 52 applicants following interviews with a system-wide committee, Oak Ridge Schools said in a Tuesday morning press release.
In his current job, Marczak oversees five district elementary schools to “achieve learning gains with the integration of instructional technology and professional learning communities.”
He served as principal of McGavock Elementary from 2009-2012, and he has also served as assistant principal of Una and Charlotte Park Elementary schools, both located in the Metro system. Marczak spent the first seven years of his career as an elementary teacher in both Metro and Wilson County schools, the press release said.
Marczak is a Rhode Island native, and he has a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and elementary education from Austin Peay State University. He earned a master of education degree in educational leadership in 2002, as well as a doctorate of education in leadership and professional practice in 2006 from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.
Marczak has also been employed by both Trevecca Nazarene and David Lipscomb Universities as an adjunct faculty member teaching in the areas of educational leadership development and technology integration, the press release said. In February 2013, he graduated from the Tennessee School Board’s Association Prospective Superintendent’s Academy.
“We are pleased to add Dr. Marczak’s leadership, curriculum and technology skills to the Oak Ridge Schools team and look forward to the contributions he will make for our students and staff,” Oak Ridge Schools Interim Superintendent Bob Smallridge said.

The range published in our salary schedule is $83,208 to $112,924. I don’t know an exact number negotiated, as this is the Superintendent’s hire and needs no approval from the Board. But, this is someone that a local executive strongly urged we consider in the Superintendent search — he comes highly recommended by people who know academic achievement.

According to the KNS he will make $110k. That, along with the new Supers $178k salary, will total $288k for the top two OR school administrators. How sweet it is!! And teachers and programs are being cut due to “budget shortfalls.” Oh well…

I just recently finished student teaching at Bellshire Elementary in Nashville, where he just finished his first year as principal. Marczak will be a great addition to the Oak Ridge team. He’s an excellent leader with innovative concepts! I’m looking forward to seeing what he does in this new position.
