The Oak Ridge Community Band will be presenting its final subscription concert of the 2012-2013 season on Sunday afternoon, April 14, at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center.
The “Music by the Numbers” concert will focus on marches and challenging classical pieces, a press release said. It starts at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission at the door is $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and students, and it includes free refreshments at the end of the program.
The Oak Ridge Community Band is a member of the Arts Council of Oak Ridge and is one of the oldest organizations in town, having performed its first concert on July 4, 1944. Currently directed by Dale Pendley and assistant conductor Lisa Michaels, the Community Band boasts 75 members and performs concerts throughout the year, the release said.
The Community Band’s goal is to provide entertaining musical programs for its audiences and an outlet for area musicians to perform, the release said. No auditions are required to join the band, and interested musicians can call (865) 483-3044 for more information.
The Community Band will begin its summer season of outdoor concerts performed at A.K. Bissell Park on Memorial Day, May 27, at 7 p.m. Other Community Band summertime concerts will be held on July 4, Aug. 4, and Sept. 2.
