NSPS now provides security services at DOE sites in Oak Ridge

National Strategic Protective Services LLC announced Monday morning that it now provides guard services at U.S. Department of Energy sites in Oak Ridge.

NSPS won the protective force services work under a five-year, $182 million contract announced in January. The company will guard the East Tennessee Technology Park, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Joe L. Evins Federal Building, and part of the Oak Ridge Reservation.

“We are extremely pleased with the smooth transition and proud to be a part of the Department of Energy team at Oak Ridge,” said NSPS President Ignacio Balderas. “The protective force services contract will be managed from the local NSPS office in Oak Ridge, and we look forward to playing an active role within the community.”

The official transition from the previous security contractor, WSI Oak Ridge, to NSPS took place at 11:00 p.m. Sunday, a press release said.

“A lot of hard work has gone into completing this successful transition, and we’re excited about welcoming NSPS to Oak Ridge,” said Larry Kelly, manager of the DOE’s Oak Ridge Office. “NSPS has assembled a highly qualified team, and we look forward to working with them as they manage the protective force operations on the Oak Ridge Reservation.”

NSPS is a joint venture between Triple Canopy Inc. and Securiguard Inc.

WSI Oak Ridge had provided protective force services in Oak Ridge since 2000. But the company lost its contract to guard Y-12, a National Nuclear Security Administration site, after the July 28 security breach, and WSI did not win the contract to protect DOE sites, including ETTP, ORNL, and the Federal Building.

“The fact that 100 percent of the incumbent protective force has joined NSPS is very satisfying and helped facilitate a seamless transition,” said Greg McDowell, general manager at NSPS. “We look forward to leveraging our leadership team’s industry knowledge and decades of management experience to ensure the highest quality protective force services at the Oak Ridge facilities.”

The press release said members of the NSPS team provide security at sites critical to U.S. interests at home and abroad.

“Triple Canopy provides mission support, security and training services to government agencies and multinational corporations in challenging locations worldwide,” the release said. “Securiguard has served clients in the United States and internationally, by delivering security services including armed officers, administration, risk assessments, technology, and training.”

The release said Oak Ridge is one of the U.S. government’s most unique and critical facilities. It includes three major campuses that conduct multi-program science and technology initiatives on behalf of the DOE and other federal agencies.

The five-year NSPS contract includes a three-year base period and a two-year option.
