The founder of an organization that helps people with disabilities and other challenges through therapy with horses will speak at a Kiwanis Club meeting at lunchtime Tuesday.

Lynn Petr is the founder and executive director of the Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding in Loudon County. STAR serves children and adults there and in 10 surrounding counties, according to information from the Kiwanis Club of Oak Ridge.

The club’s Tuesday meeting starts at noon in the meeting room of the Super China Buffet at 330 South Illinois Ave. in Oak Ridge.

Petr will discuss STAR’s activities and services, and a video will be shown to illustrate the STAR mission “to help persons with disabilities or challenges achieve goals by completing horse-related activities.”

The Kiwanis Club information said STAR depends on help from many volunteers.

This program is great. I encourage people to volunteer at STAR. They really do depend on their volunteers in helping with the riders, and barn helpers.

I tried finding their website, but the links that I got were not working. Do you know if they have a website?
