Bearden High School senior Allison Michelle Campbell has been named recipient of the 2017 UT-Battelle Scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee.

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior planning to study science, mathematics, or engineering at UT. The competitive scholarship is presented annually to a graduating student with a parent employed at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory by UT-Battelle, ORNL’s managing contractor, a press release said.

The scholarship is renewable for up to four years and is worth a total of $20,000. Campbell is the daughter of ORNL staff member Amy C. Campbell, who works in the Business Services Directorate, and Michael A. Campbell.

Among numerous activities at Bearden, Campbell is president of Bearden’s National Honors Society chapter and a member of the Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honors society. In the summer of 2015, she was selected for the Governor’s School for Science and Engineering and the National Science Foundation’s Young Scholars Program. [Read more…]

UT-Battelle provides scholarships for Roane State Middle College students from Roane County high schools

Ten Roane County students participating in Roane State Community College’s Middle College have received $3,400 annual scholarships thanks to UT-Battelle.

Roane State’s Middle College program allows high school students to take college classes in their junior and senior years and then graduate with their associate degrees and their diplomas. Middle College graduates are then able to complete their bachelor’s degrees just two years after finishing high school.

Middle College students pay for tuition through a combination of out-of-pocket funds, use of the Tennessee dual enrollment grant (funded by the state lottery), and private scholarships. The UT-Battelle Scholarship was established in fall 2015 and is awarded to one Middle College student from each high school in Roane County. [Read more…]

High school senior Samuel Feldman of Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville has earned the 2015 UT-Battelle Scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee.

The scholarship, given to a graduating senior planning to study a science field at UT, is renewable for four years and is worth a total of $20,000. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has a parent who works at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Samuel’s parents are Matthew and Laura Feldman of Knoxville. His father, Matthew, works in ORNL’s Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division. Sam’s grandparents are Mary and Jim Luttrell of Oak Ridge and Nancy and the late Melvin Feldman, who retired from ORNL, also of Oak Ridge. [Read more…]

Meredith Graves, a senior at Hardin Valley Academy, is the recipient of the 2013 UT-Battelle Scholarship to the University of Tennessee.

The four-year, $20,000 scholarship, presented annually to a graduating senior with a parent who works at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is awarded annually to an outstanding student who plans to study science, engineering, or mathematics at the University of Tennessee.

Graves, daughter of Van and René Graves of Knoxville, has already been accepted into the University of Tennessee’s Bachelor of Architecture program, where she hopes to apply her interest in STEM-related fields to the design of energy efficient and environmentally friendly structures. [Read more…]

Oak Ridge High School senior Adam LaClair has won the 2012 UT-Battelle Scholarship, a $20,000, four-year award.

The scholarship from UT-Battelle, the managing contractor of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is given every year to a graduating senior who has a parent who works at the lab and who plans to study science, engineering or mathematics at the University of Tennessee, a press release said.

The son of Tim and Sabina LaClair, Adam LaClair is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honors Society and is active in the Science Olympiad and Scholars Bowl. He has taken advanced placement courses in calculus, physics, chemistry, and English.
