Free dental, vision, medical services in February

Remote Area Medical (RAM)—a major nonprofit provider of pop-up clinics delivering free, quality dental, vision, and medical care to those in need—will have a free, two-day clinic in Oak Ridge in February.

The clinic is scheduled February 18-19 at the Oak Ridge Civic Center at 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike. The clinic is in collaboration with the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge.

All RAM services are free, and no identification is required, a press release said. Free dental, vision, and medical services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mapping a Difference: Roane State student charts Remote Area Medical services

Roane State Community College Geographic Information Systems (GIS) student Chris Zerr said she has “loved maps since I was a little kid.”

“They’re like putting together a puzzle that has lots of pieces. Maps allow you to discover what’s there and what’s not there,” she said.

Maps that Zerr recently designed are helping people discover where they can find affordable and often much-needed medical care.

As an honors project for Roane State, Zerr focused on an organization that benefits thousands of people. Remote Area Medical, or RAM as most people know it, was established in 1985 by Stan Brock to provide basic medical care through mobile clinic events in underserved, isolated or impoverished communities. AC RAM Expedition offers free medical, vision, dental services on Saturday, Sunday

First Baptist Church of Clinton will be sponsoring another Anderson County Remote Area Medical Expedition on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12. The mission of the clinic is to serve those in need of vision, dental, and medical services. No identification is required, and translation services will be available on site to help with patient registration.

The clinic will provide the following free services to patients:

  • Medical—general medical support and diabetes testing
  • Vision—vision testing and diagnoses will be offered; glasses will be prescribed and made on-site at the clinic as time and supplies permit
  • Dental—extractions, fillings, and cleaning and general oral hygiene services will be provided (patients will choose one of these dental services)

Remote Area Medical Clinic a ‘huge success’

Organizers of last weekend’s Remote Area Medical Expedition at Clinton’s First Baptist Church said the event was a huge success.

During the two-day clinic, medical, dental, and vision services estimated at more than $504,000 were provided to patients at no charge. Organizers said the vast majority of the services provided were in the dental clinic to the tune of $413,505, including one patient who received more than $8,000 in dental care. [Read more…]
