Bradshaw, Whitson to be honored at Oak Ridge Chamber Luncheon on Thursday

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will honor two area businessmenâ€”David Bradshaw and Stephen Whitsonâ€”at its annual program of work kickoff luncheon to be held on Thursday, March 19, at the Riverside Grille.

Bradshaw and Whitson will receiveÂ the Chamber’s most prestigious awards at the event, the One Voiceâ€”One Vision Luncheon, a press release said.

Bradshaw, president of the Oak Ridge branch of CapitalMark Bank and Trust, will receive the Eugene L. Joyce Lifetime Achievement Award.Â The award is given to a nominee who has truly distinguished himself or herself and embodies the essential values of volunteerism, community service, and dedication to the economic vitality of our community. It is the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerceâ€™s preeminent award given to honor the memory of the late Eugene L. Joyce. [Read more…]

Hargett, president of CVMR-USA, to speak at Oak Ridge Chamber Luncheon

CVMR President Michael Hargett, left, and Kamran Khozan, chairman and chief executive officer, joined local, state, and federal officials on Friday to announce they’re moving company headquarters from Toronto to Oak Ridge, investing $313 million and adding 620 jobs.

Michael Hargett, president of CVMR-USA, which announced Friday that it’s moving from Toronto to Oak Ridge, will be the keynote speaker at an Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Thursday, March 19.

TheÂ One Voiceâ€”One Vision Luncheon will be at noon Thursday, March 19, at the Riverside Grille in Oak Ridge.

CVMR announced at aÂ special event on Friday that the company will be locating its international headquarters in Oak Ridge. The company plans to invest $313 million and will bring 620 new jobs to the city. [Read more…]

Guest column: Surprised by debate, Chamber explains Progress PAC

At the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, we have been surprised by the debate that has surfaced after we established Progress PAC last month.

Why? Because political activity by this Chamber and others is nothing new. And political action committees, or PACs, are quite common tools for chambers and for other organizations that wish to exercise their rights to participate in the political process. Progress PAC was established to build transparency for the Chamber’s political engagement. It is not funded by Chamber membership investments or dues. Furthermore, city economic development marketing funds, which cannot be used for Chamber operations, certainly cannot and will not be applied to Progress PAC. Reporting requirements for all PACs will demonstrate that financial transparency.

Good chambers have been politically engaged for decades. And our chamber has been engaged in pro-business political activity since our founding in 1949â€”even before the City of Oak Ridge was incorporated. [Read more…]

Haslam to speak, Trammell to be honored at Chamber of Commerce luncheon

Gov. Bill Haslam will be the featured speaker at an annual Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday, and theÂ Eugene Joyce Lifetime Achievement AwardÂ will be presented posthumously to longtime Chamber board member and volunteer Kerry Trammell.

The Tuesday luncheon is the Chamber’s kickoff ceremony for theÂ 2013 Program of Work. The annual event marks the beginning of the Chamberâ€™s program year, and all Chamber member representatives are encouraged to attend, a press release said. [Read more…]
