The 18th Annual Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, April 26, will benefit Community Mediation Services of Anderson Country.

It will provide participants a great way to give back to the youth and families in our community while having a great day of golf, a press release said.

You can join Big Ed’s Pizza and Community Mediation Services for the golf tournament on Friday, April 26, at the beautiful and challenging Oak Ridge Country Club, the press release said.

The tournament will start at 8:30 a.m. April 26 in a scramble format. Golfers will get a complimentary breakfast, beverage carts, and a smoked barbecue lunch provided by Big Ed’s. Prize contests for participants will be awarded along with a hole-in-one grand prize. Free Big Ed’s shirts and golf towels for all golfers are included, the press release said. An on-site silent auction will be available.

A recent golf tournament at Oak Ridge Country Club raised funds to support a revived men’s golf team at Roane State Community College along with the startup of a women’s squad.

Proceeds from this year’s tournament will help in the purchase of equipment and supplies for the teams, and plans are in the works for future tournaments to support the teams, said Coach Chris Griffin, who is spearheading the effort.

Griffin and a special committee of staff and alumni, in partnership with the Roane State Foundation, organized the tournament, which also included a silent auction of items, events, and trips.

Contributions were received by the Roane State Foundation to support the effort, said Scott Niermann, executive director. The foundation is a not-for-profit entity that provides financial support for the college’s students and programs. [Read more…]

Oak Ridge Basketball Golf Classic Sept 17 2017

The 20th Annual Oak Ridge Basketball Golf Classic is set for Sunday, September 17, at Oak Ridge Country Club.

The tournament format will be a four-person scramble with a shot gun start at 2 p.m., a press release said.

“Please mark your calendars and join us for a fun day of golf!” the press release said. “All proceeds go to support the Oak Ridge boys basketball program.”

Boys & Girls Clubs has fundraising Reverse Raffle on Oct. 7

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Clinch Valley will hold its annual Reverse Raffle on Saturday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m. This year’s event will again be hosted and catered by the Oak Ridge Country Club, a press release said.

The Oak Ridge Country Club’s renovations to their pool and outdoor bar have created a great space for entertainment, the press release said.

“By having the event a little later this year, we hope to take advantage of the outdoor spaces, cooler weather, and phenomenal fall views,” said Boys & Girls Club Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Pettyjohn.

Girls Incorporated of Oak Ridge is hosting its 20th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, May 8, at the Oak Ridge Country Club.

“What a better way to kick off spring than a beautiful day on the course supporting our next generation of women!” a press release said.

The Golf Classic this year will feature first- and second-place team prizes, division prizes, prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, and a putting contest.

“This fun day on the course will include refreshments and snacks as well as a fabulous dinner from the Oak Ridge Country Club by the recently remodeled pool and patio,” the press release said.

This year, the funds received from the Golf Classic sponsors and team fees will all support the upcoming Girls Inc. programs. Girls Inc. supports more than 900 girls per year in intentional and research based programs to empower girls to be healthy, educated, and independent, the press release said. [Read more…]

The Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament on April 28 will benefit Community Mediation Services of Anderson Country, providing participants a great way to give back to the youth and families in the community while having a great day of golf, a press release said.

It’s the 16th Annual Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament. It will be on Friday, April 28, at the Oak Ridge Country Club.

“Oak Ridge Country Club provides a beautiful and challenging setting for all golfers,” the press release said.

The Tournament is a two-session, scramble format with two flights: 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Golfers will get a complimentary breakfast, beverage carts, and a smoked barbecue lunch. Prize contests for participants in each flight will be awarded and a Hole-in-One Grand Prize will be available. Free Big Ed’s shirts and golf towels for all golfers are included. A Silent Auction will be held in conjunction with the Tournament. Auction items will be available for viewing online at www.peacefulresolution.org.

Letter: Oak Ridge Country Club responds to comments made at Council meeting

Editor’s note: This is a letter sent to Oak Ridge City Council by the Oak Ridge Country Club in response to comments made during a City Council meeting in January, when Council considered whether to provide $120,000 for the city-owned Tennessee Centennial Golf Course.

Dear Council Members:

On behalf of the membership and Board of Directors of Oak Ridge Country Club (ORCC), I would like to take this opportunity to express our displeasure in councilman Rick Chinn stemming from a statement made during a recent City Council meeting, which subsequently made it to public media outlets. During that meeting Mr. Chinn, in defense of his vote against allocating funds to Centennial Golf Course, stated that, “there is another private golf course in Oak Ridge that is also struggling.” Due to the fact that ORCC is the only private golf course in Oak Ridge, one can conclude that he was referring to our club. I would like to take a moment to address that completely unfounded and inappropriate comment.

Oak Ridge Country Club was founded in 1947 and will celebrate its 70th year in existence this year. ORCC is not funded by the City of Oak Ridge. We currently have 275 golf members and over 440 members total that maintain the financial stability of our club, without city or state assistance. Our club is not remotely a fair comparison to Centennial when it comes to taxpayer dollars spent in the city of Oak Ridge.

Of that membership of 275 golf members, a good percentage are individuals and families that come from outside the city of Oak Ridge (Powell, West Knoxville, Hardin Valley, and Kingston, to name a few), thus bringing dollars into our city’s economy. Our club annually hosts events for Tennessee Golf Association, Tennessee PGA and Knoxville Chapter PGA. All of these events bring players from all over the state of Tennessee into our community, to our hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. [Read more…]

ORHS Tennis Booster Club hosts ‘Tennis Olympics’ on Saturday, Aug. 27

The Oak Ridge High School Tennis Booster Club has invited Oak Ridge Schools students ages 12 to 17 to join high school tennis players on Saturday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Oak Ridge Country Club for a morning of fun and games.

It will be an informal and fun time for skilled players or anyone new to the game of tennis, a press release said. The events will level the playing field for those who want to test their hand-eye coordination, as individuals or with a partner. You do not have to bring a tennis racquet. There is no charge to participate.

Events will include: Water Balloon Towel Toss, The Frog Toss, There’s a Hole in My Racquet!, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin contests. Want to know how fast your serve is? ORHS Tennis Coach David Bowman will be on hand with his radar gun, the press release said. [Read more…]

The Golf Classic this year will feature a Hole-In-One Car Prize sponsored by Sexton Automotive, first- and second-place team prizes, division prizes, prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, and a putting contest.

This fun day on the course will include refreshments and snacks as well as a fabulous dinner from the Oak Ridge Country Club by the recently remodeled pool and patio.

This year, the funds received from the Golf Classic sponsors and team fees will all support the upcoming Girls Inc. programs. Girls Inc. supports more than 800 girls per year in intentional and research-based programs to empower girls to be healthy, educated, and independent. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Clinch Valley will hold its annual Reverse Raffle on Saturday, July 30. The fundraiser will start at 6:30 p.m. July 30, and it will be hosted and catered by the Oak Ridge Country Club, which is completing renovations to its pool, outdoor bar, and entertainment area, a press release said.

“We are so excited to have the Raffle at the Country Club this year,” said Jennifer Pettyjohn, Boys & Girls Club chief executive officer. “It is just the perfect venue for this fun and casual event, with the best views in Oak Ridge!”

This year’s jackpot is again $10,000, the press release said. Numbers will be drawn during the evening on July 30, and the last number on the board will win.

For $100, the Reverse Raffle evening will include one entry into the raffle drawing, and admission for two to the live gaming, dinner, drinks, and live music event, the press release said. To keep the fun going, artists TRUK will be playing live on the new patio, and consolation prizes will be randomly awarded to losing raffle numbers by guest emcees. Not available on July 30? Community Mediation Services of Anderson County deeply appreciates the support and enthusiasm of golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and the Oak Ridge Country Club at the 15th Annual Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament.

Thanks to you, at-risk youth and families in Anderson County continue to have a way to peacefully resolve difficult issues with solutions they themselves determine. The golf tournament also honors Big Ed Neusel and David Neusel and their legacy of giving much to others while seeking recognition from none.
