Boat destroyed by fire on Norris Lake

ANDERSONVILLE—A wakeboard boat caught fire and burned late Monday morning on Norris Lake shortly after being launched at Anderson County Park, state officials said.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded to the reported boat fire at about 11 a.m. Monday. The 2012 22-foot Supra wakeboard boat was being driven by an unidentified woman, and it was completely engulfed by a fire that started near the vessel’s engine when TWRA Wildlife Officer Jason Lankford responded.

The woman’s husband informed Lankford that he had just launched the vessel when his wife took the boat down the lake for a short ride while he was parking the vehicle. The man also noted that the engine’s power ventilation system, which is designed to help prevent boat fires, was being used as the vessel was launched. [Read more…]

‘Fishing University’ coming to Norris Feb. 27

Three boaters injured in two-boat collision on Norris Lake

ANDERSONVILLE—A two-boat collision on Norris Lake near Anderson County Park sent three occupants to the hospital early last night.

The accident occurred on Friday night around 9:21 p.m. when a runabout boat and a bass boat collided nearly head-on, according to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Sgt. Roy Smith. Two of the bass boat’s occupants were ejected, and all three passengers were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Lafollette man drowns on Norris Lake

A Lafollette man drowned Thursday on Norris Lake, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of Ralph Ward, 65, was found floating in the lake near the Powell Valley Marina at around 3:45 pm Thursday after dispatchers received a 911 call from a nearby address on Cliffs Drive. [Read more…]

Three arrested, crowd pepper-sprayed during arrests at fireworks show

Three people were arrested Saturday night during the “Fire on the Water” fireworks show at Sequoyah Marina on Norris Lake after a disturbance that ended with an Anderson County Sheriff’s Department deputy deploying pepper spray on an allegedly angry crowd of onlookers.

The incident began at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when a homeowner on Sequoyah Drive approached three deputies assigned to a special detail to monitor the festivities and told them that he was having a private engagement party on his property. He told the deputies that two men and a woman had come onto the property from the public area roped off for fireworks viewing, taken beer, threatened party guests, and refused to leave. [Read more…]

State investigates late-night boat collision on Norris Lake

A late night two-boat collision on Norris Lake resulted in one injury and one arrest, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said in a Sunday evening press release.

Union County Wildlife Officer Rick Roberts reported that on Saturday around midnight between Waterside Marina and Point 19, a runabout style boat carrying five passengers struck a pontoon boat carrying six passengers from behind. The collision sent two occupants of the runabout, who were not wearing life jackets, into the water. A nearby boat rescued the two ejected passengers.

A female passenger onboard the pontoon boat sustained minor head injuries and was transported to Tennova-North Knoxville Medical Center, the TWRA said. [Read more…]

Norris Lake cleanup scheduled

Volunteers from Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, and Union Counties are needed for a Norris Lake cleanup on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During past cleanups, volunteers have collected and properly disposed of typical household trash, tires, couches, televisions, kitchen appliances, and construction materials including siding and shingles. All of these items would have been in Norris Lake if not for these volunteers.

TWRA investigating joyride, crash on Norris Lake

State authorities are investigating a midnight joyride by two Stardust Marina employees who wrecked a tenant’s personal watercraft on Norris Lake this past weekend, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.

The workers allegedly took a watercraft belonging to one of the marina’s tenants and crashed it into a floating sign anchored along the marina harbor’s “no wake” line, WYSH reported.
