Chamber’s Spring Fling Primetime Event is Thursday

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce Spring Fling Primetime will be held on Thursday, April 25, from 4-6 p.m. It is free to attend the event, and the public is invited, a press release said.

Primetime is the Chamber’s semi-annual networking event, but with some new and exciting additions, the press release said:

  • Live music by Twelve Years Truce
  • Food trucks, such as B&B BarBQ, with free samples
  • Free custard samples by Freddy’s Frozen Custard
  • Beer provided by Calhoun’s
  • Sidewalk chalk painting contest
  • Door prizes
  • Giveaways
  • Fun for the whole family

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce Spring Primetime networking opportunity is Thursday, and the public is invited to attend, a press release said.

More than 45 Chamber-member organizations have already reserved exhibit space for the event, which is titled “Fiesta Primetime.” Primetime will be held under the tent in the parking lot of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce at 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Primetime is one of the Chamber’s biggest networking events of the year. There is no charge to attend. Anyone—Chamber member or not—is encouraged to attend, the press release said.

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce Fall Primetime networking event will be held on Thursday, October 19.

More than 40 Chamber-member organizations have already reserved exhibit space for the event, titled “Primetime Tailgate Party,” a press release said. The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. under the tent in the parking lot of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce at 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike. The Oak Ridge High School Wildband will once again participate and will play the fight song as well as other football game “stand tunes.” Complimentary fresh-off-the-grill hot dogs will be available for attendees. [Read more…]

More than 60 Chamber-member organizations have already reserved exhibit space for the event titled “Primetime Tailgate Party.” It will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. under the tent in the parking lot of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce at 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Primetime is one of the Chamber’s biggest networking events of the year, a press release said.

Oak Ridge Chamber members hear about retail convention at networking meeting

Leigha Edwards, one of the Oak Ridge representatives who attended a recent shopping center convention, gave an update on retail activity during a Tuesday morning networking meeting.

Edwards works for UT-Battelle, which manages Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and she is vice chair of the Chamber’s economic growth efforts, a press release said.

She recently attended RECon, held by the International Council of Shopping Centers, along with other representatives of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oak Ridge. In addition to Edwards, other representatives who attended were Melinda Hillman of Roane State Community College and chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors; Stephen Whitson of H-S Whitson; Mayor Pro Tem Ellen Smith; and Parker Hardy, president and chief executive officer of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce.

“The conversation at RECon about retail development in Oak Ridge has changed dramatically since the first year I attended in 2013,” Edwards said. “The fact that Crosland Southeast is purchasing the mall property changed things in a very positive way. Their reputation is such that it brought a great deal of credibility to the project and the city as a whole. [Read more…]

KnoxWorx hosts community job fair Tuesday

KnoxWorx, a workforce development initiative of Knoxville Leadership Foundation, is hosting a community job fair on Tuesday with help from area churches.

The job fair is at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, January 20. The church is at 9132 Kingston Pike.

“Knoxville Leadership Foundation’s KnoxWorx program will host a community job fair and motivational seminar on January 20,” a press release said. “Several motivational speakers who have ‘been there, done that’ on the road to their career will give words of wisdom to attendees and advice on creative ways to land the job of their dreams. More than 30 local employers and HR representatives will be on hand to accept resumes and answer questions.” [Read more…]

Workshop will address ‘The Basics of Negotiation for Women’

A University of Tennessee expert will discuss “The Basics of Negotiation for Women” during a free forum on Tuesday, December 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Roane State Community College’s Oak Ridge campus at 701 Briarcliff Avenue.

The forum—presented by the Social Science, Business, and Education Division—will be held in room 107 in the new Goff Health Sciences and Technology Building. The public is invited.

TN Mountain Writers’ conference in Oak Ridge in April

The Tennessee Mountain Writers’ 26th Annual Conference, scheduled Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5, will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Oak Ridge. The conference will include writing contests, workshops, networking, manuscript evaluations, publishers, editors, book signings, a bookstore, vendors, and more.

The conference, which is funded in part under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, will kick off with a 6 p.m. reception on Thursday, April 3. Conference sessions will be held from 9 a.m. through 5:15 p.m. Friday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, followed by the banquet on Saturday evening.  The Writer’s Block, a bookstore featuring works published by workshop leaders and conference participants, will be open all day Friday and on Saturday morning.  [Read more…]

Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce member businesses are preparing for the 2013 Primetime Tailgate Party, the Chamber’s premiere business showcase and networking event.

Participating businesses have been encouraged to come dressed in their favorite team colors and to decorate their display areas with a football tailgate theme. The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce at 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce has its spring Primetime networking event on Thursday.

This spring’s theme is “Under the Bigtop.” Jugglers, carnival food, and music will all add to the festive environment, a press release said.
