ORHS vice principal to discuss school’s vision for 2020 during talk on Monday

Amber Roberts, vice principal of Oak Ridge High School, will give a talk on “Oak Ridge High School’s Vision for 2020” at the general meeting of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) on Monday, September 25, at 11:30 a.m. in Room 102 of the Activities Building of First Presbyterian Church, 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Roberts joined the staff of the high school as vice principal in 2009 after teaching eighth grade in the Atlanta metropolitan area for 11 years, a press release said.

She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Agnes Scott College, a master’s degree in middle grades science education from the University of West Georgia, and an educational specialist degree in educational administration from Lincoln Memorial University.

Her talk will be first for the 2017-2018 year for AAUW. New presidents for the year are Mayme Crowell and Fay Martin, the press release said. [Read more…]

AAUW has Holiday Green Tea on Sunday

AAUW Holiday Green Tea

AAUW, American Association of University Women, will hold its Holiday Green Tea on Sunday, December 14, from 3-5 p.m. in Room 102 of the Activities Building of First Presbyterian Church at 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Pictured above are Joanne King, Mayme Crowell, and Fay Martin, who were the hosts at last’s year’s tea.

Funds raised from the tea will go to local scholarships and other AAUW programs. The public is invited to attend and enjoy the festive event, a press release said.

UT Career Services leader to discuss ‘Negotiating for Women’ at AAUW meeting today

Mary Mahoney, an assistant director for University of Tennessee Career Services, will discuss “Negotiating for Women” during an AAUW meeting at lunchtime today.

The AAUW Oak Ridge Branch meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. today in Room 102 of the Activities Building of First Presbyterian Church at Oak Ridge Turnpike and Lafayette Drive. 

The public is invited to attend a potluck luncheon at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting, which begins at noon, a press release said. The luncheon will feature main dish salads prepared by AAUW members. Drinks, bread, crackers, and desserts will be provided. There is no cost, but donations to AAUW are welcome. Reservations may be made by calling either Mary Uziel at (865) 483-1043 or Marge Congdon at (865) 438-3120.

Mahoney has more than 20 years’ experience working as the assistant director of recruiting at the University of Tennessee, the press release said. She has certifications in salary negotiations and career coaching.

Before the program begins, Mayme Crowell, outgoing Tennessee State President of AAUW, will recognize the Education Award winner selected by Roane State Community College and will introduce the Roane State students who are winners of AAUW Educational Scholarships for this year.

Crowell will also install the Oak Ridge Branch AAUW officers for next year, including Peggy Emmett as president; Fay Martin as vice president for membership; Virginia Jones, vice president for programs; and Mary Uziel, treasurer. [Read more…]

A Roane State Community College official will discuss financial aid for college students in a noon meeting on Monday at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church.
