Celebrate Oak Ridge Business Awards Breakfast to be held May 7

Consolidated Nuclear Security, UT-Battelle, and the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce are joining together to host a breakfast in May to honor local business leaders and outstanding small businesses. May is National Small Business Month.

The honorees at the May 7 breakfast will be ARS International LLC, Karen Prillhart, Kelsan, Dustin Mackey, and Stephanie Hale-Smith of State Farm.

The Celebrate Oak Ridge Business awards breakfast will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Doubletree by Hilton.

Suck It Up Buttercup KTM 5k Bibs May 7 2017

The Suck It Up Buttercup KTM 5k in Oak Ridge on Sunday, May 7, will be in memory of Kerry Trammell.

The run is presented by Road Kill Timing and United Way of Anderson County.

Kerry Trammell was an active member of the Oak Ridge and Anderson County community. He was involved in almost everything around town, a press release said.

“He was passionate about senior services, emergency response and the beautiful greenways and parks,” the press release said.

The funds raised will help United Way fund programs that were important to Trammell and to which he dedicated his life. [Read more…]

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will honor two area businessmen—David Bradshaw and Stephen Whitson—at its annual program of work kickoff luncheon to be held on Thursday, March 19, at the Riverside Grille.

Bradshaw and Whitson will receive the Chamber’s most prestigious awards at the event, the One Voice—One Vision Luncheon, a press release said.

Bradshaw, president of the Oak Ridge branch of CapitalMark Bank and Trust, will receive the Eugene L. Joyce Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is given to a nominee who has truly distinguished himself or herself and embodies the essential values of volunteerism, community service, and dedication to the economic vitality of our community. The race is in memory of Kerry Trammell. Proceeds from the 2015 race will go to the Aven Crane Cancer Foundation and the Colton Stout Scholarship Foundation.

The Kerry Trammell Memorial 5k Run and Walk will start at 8 a.m. May 4 at the Oak Ridge Marina.

Proceeds of this year’s race will go toward the purchase and installation of emergency mile markers on the Melton Lake Greenway. The mile markers will be placed every .10 miles and coordinated with 911, and Trammell’s name will be placed on each.

The course starts on the Oak Ridge Marina peninsula and runs on Melton Lake Drive and along the water on the Melton Lake Greenway. [Read more…]

The early registration deadline for the Kerry Trammell Memorial 5K Run and Walk is May 4.

The race will start at 7:30 a.m. May 19 at the Oak Ridge Marina. The route includes Melton Lake Drive and the Melton Lake Marina Greenway. Proceeds will benefit the Anderson County Rescue Squad.

The race is sponsored by Secret City Runners and NHC Healthcare in Oak Ridge.

Registration by May 4 is $25. Late and race day registration is $30. [Read more…]

Kerry Trammell, 56, of Oak Ridge, passed away suddenly at his home last week.

Kerry lived life generously, giving himself to many organizations and individuals. He was a longtime contributor to the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary, the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, and countless other volunteer-community based groups. Kerry had recently become active in the emergency medical service, achieving wilderness first responder licensing and going on to become an emergency medical technician, utilizing those skills with a local rescue squad.

An avid and lifelong athlete, Kerry wrestled in high school, practiced karate early, and started running in the mid-1980s. He was locally and nationally known in the ultra-running community and was passionate about the sport and contributing as a participant, race director, and goodwill ambassador. Kerry literally ran thousands of miles in races from the East to West Coast with family members and friends.

Kerry Trammell—a health care executive, community leader, ultramarathon runner, and musician—died Thursday. He was 56.

Trammell died of natural causes at his Oak Ridge home, family friend Lori Anderson said Saturday morning.

Trammell was administrator at NHC HealthCare in Oak Ridge and board secretary for the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Elder Citizens Advisory Board and Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club, an emergency medical technician active with the Anderson County Volunteer Rescue Squad, and past chair of the U.S. Department of Energy’s local Site Specific Advisory Board.
