Coal Creek Miners Museum has grand opening on March 11

The Coal Creek Miners Museum in Rocky Top will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting on March 11.

The museum tells the story of the miners that lived, worked, and died in Coal Creek, Fraterville, and Briceville, and it also tells about the historically significant events that changed the mining industry, a press release said.

The grand opening is scheduled from 2-5 p.m. March 11 at the new museum, which is at 201 South Main Street in Rocky Top (formerly known as Lake City). The ribbon-cutting with the Rocky Top Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Dollar General to celebrate grand opening of new store in Oliver Springs

Dollar General will celebrate the opening of its new location at 105 Jackson Lane in Oliver Springs this Saturday, May 9, at 8 a.m. with free prizes and special deals, a press release said.

Also, the first 50 adult shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways.

In the press release, Dollar General said it intends to offer Oliver Springs residents a convenient new place to shop for everyday essentials at low prices. [Read more…]

New Kroger Marketplace largest in Knoxville, Nashville area

The grand opening of the Kroger Marketplace in Oak Ridge was Sunday morning. The new 124,000-square-foot store is the largest in Tennessee in the Knoxville and Nashville area. The new shopping center is named the Westcott Center in honor of him.

 

The Kroger Marketplace that opened in Oak Ridge on Sunday is the company’s largest store in the Knoxville and Nashville area, executives said. It’s the third Kroger Marketplace in the Knoxville area.

The 124,000-square-foot store is at the corner of Oak Ridge Turnpike and Illinois Avenue. It’s the company’s fifth store in Oak Ridge, and it’s in a new shopping center named the Westcott Center in honor of Ed Westcott, the official U.S. government photographer here during the top-secret Manhattan Project in World War II.

Kroger said the new store created 270 jobs and will employ a total of 375 workers, including those moving from the previous store on South Illinois Avenue.

The new grocery store features larger bakery, dairy, deli, meat, and seafood sections, as well as a produce section that includes organic and local produce. There are 22 check-out registers and more than 46 aisles. [Read more…]

The hour-long ceremony is sponsored by the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce.

Bojangles’ restaurant will open on South Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge on Friday, Dec. 27.

The new restaurant is at 490 S. Illinois Ave., just south of the former Dean Stallings Ford.

The company said Bojangles’ is “a Southern-style restaurant famous for serving made-from-scratch biscuits, hand-breaded chicken, and mouth-watering breakfast all day.”

Bojangles’ is offering $100 gift cards to the first 100 customers at 5 a.m. Dec. 27, and one lucky customer will win free breakfasts for a year, a press release said. [Read more…]

The new Dollar General store in west Oak Ridge has a grand opening on Saturday.

The grand opening celebration at 2095 Oak Ridge Turnpike starts at 8 a.m. and includes free prizes and special deals, a press release said. Andersonville Fire Department to hold open house, grand opening today

The Andersonville Volunteer Fire Department will officially open its third fire hall in mid-September, but the department is offering citizens a chance to get a look at the new station during an open house and grand opening celebration set for today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m.

The Belmont station, built by volunteers at a cost of $110,000, is located at the intersection of Park Road and Sequoyah Lane on the former site of the Belmont School, which burned down in the mid-1960s. The new fire station is 5,000 square feet in size. [Read more…]

A new bank in Jackson Square will have a grand opening and open house on Friday.

The celebration at CapitalMark Bank and Trust will include an 11:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. The public is invited to visit any time during the day, and Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan and CapitalMark staff will attend the ribbon-cutting, a press release said.
