Golf tournament in Oak Ridge will support Roane State team

The second annual Roane State Community College Golf Team Fundraiser Tournament will be held Monday, July 1, at Oak Ridge Country Club.

All proceeds will go to assist the college’s golf team with various expenses, including team travel costs and equipment. The event will begin with lunch at 11:30 p.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Thirteen teams participated in the first tournament last year, “and we’re hoping to have at least 20 teams this year,” said Roane State Foundation Development Specialist Lauren Barber. [Read more…]

The 18th Annual Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, April 26, will benefit Community Mediation Services of Anderson Country.

It will provide participants a great way to give back to the youth and families in our community while having a great day of golf, a press release said.

You can join Big Ed’s Pizza and Community Mediation Services for the golf tournament on Friday, April 26, at the beautiful and challenging Oak Ridge Country Club, the press release said.

The tournament will start at 8:30 a.m. April 26 in a scramble format. Golfers will get a complimentary breakfast, beverage carts, and a smoked barbecue lunch provided by Big Ed’s. Prize contests for participants will be awarded along with a hole-in-one grand prize. Free Big Ed’s shirts and golf towels for all golfers are included, the press release said. An on-site silent auction will be available.

A recent golf tournament at Oak Ridge Country Club raised funds to support a revived men’s golf team at Roane State Community College along with the startup of a women’s squad.

Proceeds from this year’s tournament will help in the purchase of equipment and supplies for the teams, and plans are in the works for future tournaments to support the teams, said Coach Chris Griffin, who is spearheading the effort.

Griffin and a special committee of staff and alumni, in partnership with the Roane State Foundation, organized the tournament, which also included a silent auction of items, events, and trips.

Contributions were received by the Roane State Foundation to support the effort, said Scott Niermann, executive director. The foundation is a not-for-profit entity that provides financial support for the college’s students and programs. [Read more…]

Atomic City Sportsmen Club has golf tournament Saturday

The Atomic City Sportsmen Club has its 16th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday.

The tournament is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Centennial Golf Club at 101 Centennial Boulevard in Oak Ridge.

It’s a best ball-shotgun start, an event flyer said. The entry fee is $75 per person. It’s $90 the day of the event.

The tournament includes lunch, range balls, a goodie bag, and door prizes, the flyer said.

The Oak Ridge High School Boys Basketball Boosters have a fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, August 13.

It’s their 19th annual golf tournament. This year’s event—a four-man scramble format—will be at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. August 13 with a shotgun start. The tournament costs just $75 per person, a press release said.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with breakfast and free range balls for participants. A Mulligan Package is also available for $25, which includes mulligans, a red tee, a door prize ticket, and a putting contest ticket, the press release said. [Read more…]

The Atomic City Sportsmen Club has its 15th Annual Golf Tournament on June 18 in Oak Ridge.

The golf tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. June 18 at Centennial Golf Club at 101 Centennial Boulevard.

The entry fee is $75 per person and $90 on the day of the event (strictly enforced).

There is lunch, range balls, a goodie bag, and door prizes.

You can start your golf tournament season in April and help a nonprofit organization that helps young people and families. The 15th Annual Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, April 29, will benefit Community Mediation Services of Anderson Country.

The golf tournament will be held at the Oak Ridge Country Club. The ORCC Golf Course provides a “beautiful and challenging setting for golfers as well as allowing participants a great way to give back to the community through Community Mediation Services’ work with youths and families,” a press release said.

The tournament is a two-session, scramble format with two flights: 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A new Chevrolet, provided by Sexton Automotive Group, will be the grand prize for the hole-in-one, the press release said. Complimentary continental breakfasts, beverage carts, and a smoked barbecue lunch, as well as prize contests for golfers, will be available. Free shirts for all golfers are included.

The early registration deadline is Friday, April 22. You can register early for $100 per player and $400 per team, and for $125 per player and $500 per team after April 22 or at the door. [Read more…]

The Under Armour/Scott Stallings Championship is in Oak Ridge this week. The golf tournament is scheduled at the Oak Ridge Country Club from July 27-30.

It’s the second annual event, and it’s been organized by the American Junior Golf Association.

On Sunday, the tournament announced that 10 boys and two girls qualified.

Goodman Rudolph of Cordova, Tennessee, and Zach Miller of Richmond, Kentucky, both ­carded 3-under-par 69s to earn co-medalist honors Sunday at the AJGA Qualifier.

Amanda Doherty of Atlanta and Kimberlee Tottori of Las Vegas claimed co-medalist honors in the Girls Division with 1-under-par 71s at Oak Ridge Country Club. [Read more…]

Golf tournament to benefit Free Medical Clinic

A golf tournament in August will benefit the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge.

It’s the 16th Annual Summer Golf Challenge for the Free Medical Clinic, and it will be held on Saturday, August 15, at the Oak Ridge Country Club. The tournament has a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, and it is hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority of Oak Ridge, Oak Ridge Hoofers Golf Club, and the Oak Ridge Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

The Free Medical Clinic is a nonprofit medical group that provides medical care at no cost to residents of Anderson, Roane, and Morgan Counties who do not have insurance or cannot afford care because of low income. The clinic is staffed primarily by volunteers and relies on donations from individuals, churches, and local organizations for financial support. Although the number of patients seeking care has increased significantly in recent months and donations have not kept pace, the clinic continues to serve as many as possible with the resources at hand. The 14th Annual Big Ed’s Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, April 24, and it will benefit Community Mediation Services of Anderson Country.

The Golf Tournament will be held at the Oak Ridge Country Club Golf Course.

“The Oak Ridge Country Club provides a beautiful setting for golfers at this popular tournament,” a press release said.

The Tournament honors the community spirit and caring of “Big Ed” Neusel, founder of Big Ed’s Pizza, and David Neusel and their belief in giving to others while seeking recognition from no one, and it provides important support for Community Mediation Services’ work with youths and families, the release said.
