Edwin M. Kidd, 86, beloved father of Sherry Stewart, Nora Black, Jerry, Katrina, and Kevin Kidd, died Monday, April 8, at Greenfield Senior Living Center surrounded by his family.
Edwin was born in Pine Knot, Ky., on Aug. 25, 1926, and he was a member of the 1943 Pine Knot High School graduating class. He served as a signalman in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He attended Cumberland College, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Tennessee, graduating with a master’s degree in mathematics. He taught mathematics at McCreary County High School before moving to Oak Ridge with his wife, Nila, in 1951 to work as a computer programmer at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant (K-25). He retired from Union Carbide after 29 years but continued to work for various Defense and Energy Department contractors as a project manager in Oak Ridge and Chicago into his 70s.
