ETEC honors Hot Bagel owners with ‘Muddy Bagel’ Award

Donna and Tom Sullivan, owners of Hot Bagel Company, were celebrated Friday morning with a Muddy Bagel Award for their community service for more than 25 years.

The Muddy Bagel Award is a spin-off of the Muddy Boot Award. That award from the East Tennessee Economic Council has been given for many years to people who “go above the call of duty to make the community a better place to live and work.”

The Sullivans are retiring. Hot Bagel has been the caterer for ETEC since 1995.

The Muddy Bagel Award was presented during a Zoom meeting of ETEC’s Board of Directors on Friday morning.

Pumpkin Bagel Fest features fundraising, ‘bagel chunking fun’

Many know what pumpkin chunking is—the act of turning a pumpkin into a projectile, but few have seen it done with a bagel. Yes, those round doughy breakfast items will be flung on Saturday, October 18, at the Pumpkin Bagel Fest.

The event, coordinated by Hot Bagel Company, will be held in the Manhattan Place (Food City) parking lot in Oak Ridge from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Participants must create their own catapult to compete for distance and target. Entries from local Boy Scout troops and Lake City schools are expected, but additional entries are welcome. An Oak Ridge-based credit union is having its next small business cash mob at Hot Bagel Co. at lunchtime Thursday.

An Oak Ridge-based credit union is having its next small business cash mob at Hot Bagel Co. at lunchtime Thursday.

The cash mob is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The first 30 people there will receive a free $20 gift card courtesy of ORNL Federal Credit Union. There is a limit of one per family or couple. Other special offers will also be available.

It’s the credit union’s Small Business Counts Cash Mob, which started in late July, and the first one at lunch.

Hot Bagel Co. was selected thanks to multiple nominations led by ORNL Federal Credit Union member Mark Medley, a press release said. Hot Bagel is located at 1155 Oak Ridge Turnpike in the Manhattan Place shopping center. [Read more…]
