Soiree Winds, a local wind quintet, will play in a free concert at Oak Ridge First Presbyterian Church on Sunday.

The concert is presented by the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association. It’s the final coffee concert of the season, and it starts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26. Refreshments will be served.

Soiree Winds is a wind quintet featuring local professional musicians: Shelby Shankland on flute, Marina Jaffe on oboe, Erin Bray on clarinet, Zach Milwood on bassoon, and Henry C. Hooker on horn. Special guest pianist Robert Bonham will also perform.

The group will play music by Debussy, Piazzola, Poulenc, and Saint Saens, among others.

“Come and support local musicians, friends, and classical music in Oak Ridge,” organizers said.

The first Coffee Concert of the season will feature a vocalist and pianist performing Hispanic music on Sunday.

Mezzo soprano Judy DiGregorio and pianist Vera Maya will perform Ladino folk songs from Sephardic Jews and works by composers such as Valverde, Granados, Dominguez, Lara, Grever, Sanchez de Fuentes, Padilla, and Lecuona, a press release said.

It’s the first Coffee Concert of the season for the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association, and it starts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 26, at First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge. [Read more…]

Free coffee concert Sunday features double bass, piano

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association will present a free Coffee Concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Presbyterian Church sanctuary, located at the corner of Lafayette and Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Preston Davis will perform on double bass along with Will Yager on double bass and Pam Robertson on piano.

They will perform Bach’s “Double Violin Concerto” arranged for double bass and piano, as well as G. Bottesini’s “Passiona Amorosa.” Their musical selection will also include performing other double-bass arrangements.

Violin concert on Saturday will help ADFAC

Aaron Colverson, a classically trained violin soloist, will play a mix of contemporary and classical music during a Saturday night fundraising concert in Oak Ridge.

The music from Africa, combined with the Appalachian music, will be followed by music from China and from music’s Classical era.

The coffee concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge. It’s presented by the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association, and it will feature visual imagery along with the music.

The concert is free, but donations of $5 or more are suggested. All proceeds will benefit Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties, or ADFAC. [Read more…]

Coffee Concert tonight at First Presbyterian Church

A Coffee Concert at First Presbyterian Church this evening will feature Ilia Steinschneider and Sean Claire on violin, Eunsoon Corliss on viola, and Eunsook Jung on piano.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m., and it will feature music by Beethoven, Chopin, Sarasate, Toselli, and Mozart. It’s been organized by the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.

First Presbyterian Church is at 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge.

“A Night of Violin, Vocal, and Piano Music” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge.

Arte Musica performs in ORCMA concert on Sunday

Arte Musica, a crossover band consisting of Rudolph Nemeth on piano, Wade Darnell on banjo, and Travis Witherington on bass, will perform at the ORCMA Coffee Concert at 7:30 p.m. April 22.

The trio will be performing a variety of music styles, but will focus on original compositions. This free concert at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church is open to the public.
