Oak Ridge man in critical condition after crash that killed son

An Oak Ridge man remained in critical condition at a Knoxville hospital on Tuesday after a Monday morning crash that killed his son, authorities said.

Joseph Eatherly, 61, of Oak Ridge, was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after the crash on southbound Alcoa Highway at Airport Hilton. The two-vehicle crash killed Eatherly’s son, Eric Eatherly, 35, of Hixson, the Alcoa Police Department said.

The APD said the accident occurred at 6:37 a.m. Monday when Joseph Eatherly tried to make a U-turn from the right-hand lane of Alcoa Highway. [Read more…]

Oak Ridge woman dies in three-car crash in Alcoa

An Oak Ridge woman died in a three-car crash in Alcoa on Monday morning, authorities said.

Claire B. Milner, 20, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after the crash on Alcoa Highway at Willow Road at 9:45 a.m. Monday, but she died of her injuries, the Alcoa Police Department said.

Milner had been driving a 2000 Ford Focus on Willow Road and had apparently stopped at the stop sign, then attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Alcoa Highway to turn left onto northbound Alcoa Highway, the APD said in a news release. Milner’s Focus was struck in the driver’s door by a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Zackary A. Presnell, 33, of Knoxville, who was traveling south on Alcoa Highway, in the left lane of travel. [Read more…]

Oliver Springs man dies in Pellissippi Parkway crash

A 73-year-old Oliver Springs man died in a Sunday morning crash on Pellissippi Parkway, authorities said.

The collision that killed Eddy Palmer involved three vehicles and two separate crashes between Topside Road and Alcoa Highway in the eastbound lanes of Pellissippi Parkway, the Alcoa Police Department said.

The first two-vehicle crash occurred at about 8:12 a.m. Sunday when James Green, 28, of Knoxville, was momentarily blinded by the sun, causing the eastbound 1992 Honda Accord he was driving to rear-end a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Palmer, who lived on Joel Road in Oliver Springs, the police department said. Alleged serial bank robber apprehended

Law enforcement officials announced Thursday that a suspected serial bank robber was apprehended minutes after allegedly holding up a bank in Alcoa.

Gerald Hytken of Lenoir City, 79, is suspected of robbing four banks in the past two years and is facing federal charges for, among other things, allegedly robbing an Oak Ridge bank last year.
