Mona Augusta Manning

Mona Augusta Manning, 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 7, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Chattanooga, one of six children born to Robert and Mona Warters Manning.

She was a long time member and organist at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and active with various church guilds. Miss Manning served as a Dominican sister and teacher for over 30 years. She loved music and was a master organist. She enjoyed crocheting and the many valued friendships made over the years. [Read more…]

Winnie Elizabeth Sexton, 97, of the Solway Community, passed away at NHC in Oak Ridge on Feb. 8.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1915, in Scott County to parents James H. and Elizabeth “Elsa” Kircher Phillips.

Winnie had worked as a secretary with Union Carbide Corporation and a member of Solway Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed gardening and canning.

She was preceded in death by husband, D.L. “Doc” Sexton; son, James R. (Bobby) Sexton; brothers, Eugene, Hubert, and Crawford Phillips; and sister-in-law, Charity Ellis Phillips. [Read more…]

Hazel Virginia Waldo Clifton, age 94, of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, at Emeritus Senior Living.

She was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Spring City, the daughter of Perry and Vinny Kern Waldo.

Mrs. Clifton was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church, and before her health began to fail, she was active in many of the church activities and sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening and knitting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert Rue Clifton in 1998; daughter, Janet Marie Clifton Mason in 2006; and son-in-law, Richard Timothy Greene in 2004. [Read more…]

Henry Vann Burris

Henry Vann Burris, age 88, a resident of the Dyllis Community in Roane County, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Scott Ball.

Mr. Burris was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Oliver Springs. He lived in Oak Ridge and Knoxville for several years. He has lived in Dyllis for the past three years.

Before his retirement in 1981, he owned and operated the Oak Ridge Yellow Cab Company for 35 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

Marguerite Helen Lundell

Marguerite Helen Lundell, age 102, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at her home.

She was born Sept. 14, 1910. in Confluence, Pa., the daughter of Henry Clay Dean and Maude Alice Weaver Dean.

Mrs. Lundell retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Corp., where she was an administrative assistant at the K-25 plant. She was of the Baptist faith and had been active with the Go-Getters of Central Baptist Church. She had also been active with the East TN Dance Club and the Organ Club.

Phillip Thomas Cole

Phillip Thomas Cole, was born Sept. 18, 1964, in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

On Jan. 28, he passed away in a fire at his home in Oak Ridge. He had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1965.

Phillip was the son of Gordon and Sonya Cole of Oak Ridge.

He attended Oak Ridge schools from kindergarten through graduation in 1983. After graduation, he attended Somerset Technical Vocational School in Somerset, Ky., and earned a degree in aircraft maintenance. He then worked with Eastern Metro Airline in Chattanooga. After Eastern closed, he came back to Oak Ridge and joined his mother (Sonya Cole) and grandparents (Ann and Tom Hart) in operating the family business, HARCO Enterprises, for about 15 years, where he was production manager.

Elizabeth Robinson Bunch, of Oak Ridge, was born June 25, 1958. She went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 5.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Jacob Robinson, and mother, Ada Elizabeth Wood.

Her survivors include her husband and best friend, Lloyd “Buddy” Bunch; son, Scott Thomas (Sarah); daughter, Rachel Ganues (Greg); stepchildren, Toby Bunch, Adam Bunch, and Andrew Bunch; and eight grandchildren, whom she loved deeply, Will, Grey, Henry, Matt, Ashley, Sophie, Madilynn, and Ava. Rev. Andrew J. “Jack” Taylor

Rev. Andrew J. (Jack) Taylor, age 84, of Clinton, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Golden Living Center-Windwood in Clinton.

Jack loved fishing, gardening, and watching girls’ softball. He pastored New Home Baptist Church in Andersonville, Dutch Valley Baptist Church, Community Baptist Church in Maynardville, Guiding Star Baptist Church in Lake City, and Stanfield Baptist Church in Elk Valley. Jack was currently a member of Hinds Creek Baptist Church.

He was also a member of the Eastern Star and Briceville Masons Crystal Lodge# 60016. Jack was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Living Center-Windwood for their wonderful care. [Read more…]

Mary Fohey, age 77, of Lancing, Tenn., formerly of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born in Corryton, Tenn., to the late Andy and Willie May Stinnett. Mary attended Central High School in Knoxville. She worked for American Express as a collection manager.

Aiden Lee Long, infant son of Freddie Lee Long Jr. and Shanna Freels of Clinton, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

Aiden was born July 19, 2012, in Oak Ridge.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jordan Freels; a sister, Kaylee Freels; by maternal grandparents, Michael Freels of Lenoir City, and Barbara Schultz and husband Richard of Oak Ridge; by paternal grandparents, Freddie Lee Long Sr. of Harriman and Teresa Kahn of Oak Ridge; and by maternal great-grandparents, Elmira Freels, and Sterling and Geneva Ricker.
