Frances Beatrice Lee

Frances Beatrice Lee, 95, of Oak Ridge passed away Wednesday, March 6, at Emeritus of Oak Ridge.

She was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Frank and Myrtle Crippen Vandergrif.

She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and a retired seamstress from Levi Strauss. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

She married her husband Howard F. Lee on March 11, 1946, in Bacon County, Ga. They were married 60 years at the time of his death on Dec. 30, 2006.

Barbara Jean Keever

Barbara Jean Keever, 76, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, March 7, at Tennova West Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Spring City, Tenn., the daughter of William and Nellie Vittitoe Neal. Mrs. Keever was a long-time member of Royce Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bird watching.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Ray Clifton Keever on May 26, 2010.

Helen Kopp Schwenn, 92, died on Feb. 18 in Oak Ridge.

Helen was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Monroe, Wis., and spent her formative years in the Swiss community of New Glarus, Wis., where her father was a cheese maker.

She met her husband of 52 years, Marvin F. Schwenn, in Madison, Wis.

After a short time in New York City, where Marvin joined Union Carbide Corp. and the Manhattan Project at Columbia University, they relocated to Oak Ridge in August of 1944.

Patricia Faye “Pat” Morgan

Patricia Faye “Pat” Morgan, age 69, a resident of Harriman, passed away Monday, March 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mrs. Morgan was born March 16, 1943, in Anderson County. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

Pat was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Dyllis Baptist Church.

She retired in 1999, following 20 years of employment at the Y-12 Federal Plant in Oak Ridge. She was a member of the Ritzy Thimble Quilters Guild in Oak Ridge. The local Quilters Guild often made quilts for the Oak Ridge Hospitality House, and this was an activity that she loved. [Read more…]

Harold Russell Standefer

Harold Russell Standefer, age 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, at his home.

He was born June 27, 1933, in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of Clarence Raymond Standefer and Berdie Mae Dalton Standefer.

Mr. Standefer retired from Lockheed Martin, where he was an architectural engineer.

He was a longtime member of Highland View Church of Christ and was always active in church activities. He enjoyed his church family, playing golf and stamp collecting, and he was an avid reader and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to the Methodist Medical Center Cardiac Rehab Center. [Read more…]

Ronald David Braden, age 71, a resident of the Frost Bottom Community in Anderson County, passed away Sunday, March 3, at his home.

Mr. Braden was born Nov. 22, 1941, in Anderson County. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Before his retirement, David was a self-employed master mechanic, and he owned and operated Braden’s Automotive Repair. His hobbies included fishing and going to flea markets.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While serving, he received several medals, badges, citations, and ribbons. [Read more…]

Norma Faye Amos

Norma Faye Amos, 73, of Oak Ridge, passed away at her home on March 1.

She was born on May 17, 1939, in Armathwaite, Tenn., to parents Sylvester J. Jones and Dessie Bridges Jones.

Norma was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had retired after 33 years with the U.S. Department of Energy as a document processor.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, and geneology.

Monus Brewer Sr.

Monus Brewer Sr., age 76, of Andersonville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

Monus worked for and retired from General Motors Norwood Plant in Kentucky. He was an avid basketball fan, devoted father, and grandfather.

Monus was preceded in death by his parents, Pleas and Viola Brewer; wife of 10 years, Geraldine Brewer, and wife of 40 years, Martha Sue Brewer; brother, Edward Brewer; sister, Christine Mills; and brother-in-law, Tom Mills.
