Robert “Kelley” Stout

Robert “Kelley” Stout Jr., age 46, of Pigeon Forge, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.

He was born Nov. 11, 1966, in Oak Ridge, the son of Robert Kelley Stout Sr. and Joyce Mae Adams Stout of Oak Ridge.

Kelley grew up in Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and was a member of Batley Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. He was a well-known entertainer and singer in the Pigeon Forge area, performing at Classic Country, Kickin’ Country, Lumberjack Feud, Smoky Mountain Opry, Dixie Stampede, and the Blackwood’s Breakfast Show.

His contagious laughter and fun-loving attitude was a pleasure to all who ever knew him. He loved his children and his family with all his heart. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. [Read more…]

Patricia C. “Trish” Holst

Patricia C. Holst, 67, born in Dunedin, Fla., to Delpha Garrett Holst and Emery Holst, died Oct. 29, 2013, at her home in Knoxville from colon cancer.

Trish was an educational consultant in private practice for 33 years in Oak Ridge. She has helped hundreds of children and adults apply the latest scientific knowledge and brain science to solving problems of learning and enhancing academic excellence. She loved dogs and always took her dog to work to assist in the learning process.

Trish loved music and led the Sorta Singers, a group who just loved to sing and play music. She played guitar, mandolin, and banjo. [Read more…]

Charlie Butler Jr., age 84, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Roane Medical Center.

Mr. Butler was born March 8, 1929, in Harlan, Ky. He moved to Oliver Springs during his early childhood, where he has continued to live.

Marjorie Emory Alcorn, age 90, a resident of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at home.

Marjorie was born on Jan. 15, 1923, in Coalfield. She lived in Oliver Springs until her move to Loudon in 1990. She has lived in Knoxville since 2001.

Before her retirement, she was employed as a cashier/clerk at several area grocery stores. Marjorie enjoyed music, reading, cooking, sewing, Braves baseball, and watching her children play softball.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother and she attended the Loudon Church of God. [Read more…]

Greg was born on Sept. 6, 1971, in Oak Ridge. He was a car enthusiast and also enjoyed fishing and drag racing.

Ivalina Virginia Jackson Martin

Ivalina Martin, “Aunt Lina,” was born March 29, 1928, in Claxton to the late Henry and Mollie Thomas Jackson.

She departed this life on Oct. 26, 2013, at River Oaks Assisted Living in Loudon.

She was a graduate of Morristown College in Morristown, Tenn., and a former employee of the Oak Ridge Care Center and the Knox County Office on Aging. She was a life-long member of Haven Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as pianist, treasurer, secretary, communion steward, and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Womens Society.

Ivalina was an energetic and loving person. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, and attending local flea markets. [Read more…]

She was born to parents George Arthur and Osie Kleeper Altom in Talbott, Tenn.

He was born to parents Lindy Massey and Viola Mavis Hughes Murdock on Dec. 18, 1956, in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mark was owner of Kitchen Karma and a patented inventor who was an all-around good Samaritan, having had a true missionary spirit.

Alva Louis “Al” Fischer

Alva Louis “Al” Fischer, 90, of Oak Ridge entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

Al, known to family and friends as “Pop,” was born Jan. 30, 1923, the son of Fritz and Hazel Fischer and the younger brother of Fred and Shirley. He grew up in the Ft. Sanders area of Knoxville, graduated from Knoxville High School in 1941, and married the love of his life, Dorothy Kidd, in 1942.

He attended the University of Tennessee prior to joining the U. S. Army during World War II, serving in Germany, France, and England. In 1945, Al and Dot settled in Oak Ridge where they raised their five sons. Al worked at Union Carbide for 40 years in Special Materials Procurement, and after his retirement joined Dot in operating Jackson Square Antique Shoppe.

He was a longtime deacon and Sunday School teacher at Central Baptist Church and was in recent years the senior member of High Places Community Church, where he was cherished by the entire congregation. He was a Vols fan, enjoyed fishing and classic movies, supported a foster child and many other charities, and was the beloved patriarch of a large family. [Read more…]

Robert Harold Gilliam

Robert H. Gilliam, 83, died peacefully on Oct. 17, 2013.

Born in Dickson, Tenn., Bob moved to Oak Ridge as a teenager. After graduating from Oak Ridge High School, he went on to earn a DDS from the University of Tennessee, after which he completed a post-doctoral program in periodontics at Tufts University.

Bob spent his entire 30-year professional career in the U.S. Air Force’s Dental Corps. His assignments took him from the Philippines to Germany and various other foreign and domestic bases in between. After retiring with the rank of colonel, Bob returned with his family to Oak Ridge, where he remained until his death. In retirement, Bob took to reading, and, in his final years, his daughters tried in vain to keep him supplied with enough books to occupy his ever-curious mind. [Read more…]
