David Donald “Don” Owens

David Donald “Don” Owens, age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Friday, April 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Owens was born Feb. 13, 1934, in the Back Valley Community of Morgan County. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Don served his country in the United States Army. While serving, he received several ribbons and decorations.

Before his retirement in 1999, he was employed for 33 years at the Y-12 Federal Plant in Oak Ridge as a senior production scheduler. [Read more…]

Ronnie Lee Hinkle, age 32, a resident of the Frost Bottom Community in Anderson County, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at his home.

Ronnie was born April 17, 1981, in Oak Ridge. He was a lifelong resident of this area. He graduated from Oliver Springs High School in 1999. His hobbies included playing computer games and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Oscar Mitchell, and by his paternal grandparents, Hobert and Maxine Phillips. [Read more…]

Robert Daugherty Jr.

Robert Lee Daugherty Jr., always known as Bobby, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, at Methodist Medical Center.

Bobby was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He was the proprietor of the Daugherty building. Bobby enjoyed being a scout master for several years, and was very proud of all his eagle scouts. He was the director of quarter back club at the Clinton High School for many years. Bobby was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Bobby is survived by his parents, Robert Lee Daugherty Sr. and Wilma of Clinton; wife, Ruth Daugherty of Clinton; son, Lee Daugherty of Knoxville; brother, Tommy Daugherty and wife Susie of Knoxville; and sisters, Vicki Ingall and husband Kirk, of Carmel, Ind., Debbie Winfree and husband Greg of Oak Ridge, and Terri Brabston and husband Stewart of Farragut. Edith Francis Harmening, age 96 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, April 2, at Tennova Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Edith was an educator for many decades in the classroom and the Central Office. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Edith also had a great love for her church, South Clinton Baptist Church, where she was a member.

William Boyd Wyrick

William Boyd Wyrick, age 72, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, March 28, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 24, 1941, in Knoxville, the son of Polly Day and Marcus William Wyrick.

Mr. Wyrick retired from Airport Olds-Cadillac, where he was a sales representative. He was a member of Burlington Masonic Lodge #763 of Knoxville, the Knoxville Scottish Rite and Kerbela Shriners.

Mr. Wyrick was an accomplished musician and songwriter, playing the guitar and harmonica. In earlier years, he played and recorded with Jimmy Hendrix. He also owned and aired a syndicated TV show in Knoxville. [Read more…]

Charmaine Yvonne Crossan Holbert, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, March 27.

Charmaine was born in West Virginia on April 8, 1930. She was a true coal miner’s daughter of Thomas Edward Crossan, who died from a mine injury on April 30, 1935, and Lura “Helen” Webb Crossan, who died in 1999.

She was married to William (Bill) H. Holbert Sr. They had three sons, Thomas M. Holbert, James M. Holbert, and William (Billy) H. Holbert Jr.

Richard “Dick” Philippone

Richard “Dick” Philippone, the beloved patriarch of his family, died peacefully on March 25, at the age of 89.

He was born in January 1925 in Denver, Colo., and lived a rich and fulfilling life with his beloved wife Lois.

To his friends and family, Dick was the busiest man anyone knew from the day he left his father’s house in the 1940s to serve in World War II, until the last hours of his life when he wanted to call his family and say goodbye. After all, he had things to do. [Read more…]

Eunice L. “Bobbie” Brewer, 90, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Taylors, S.C., went home to Heaven on Sunday, March 30.

She was retired from Steel Heddle in Taylors, where she worked as an inspector. She was voted most athletic by her high school classmates, rode Harleys as a teenager and beyond, travelled the country by bus and as a passenger in an 18-wheeler, and had numerous adventures, living life by the simple motto: “What’s to be, will be.”

Gregory W. Jackson, “Greg,” age 55, of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 25, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Greg was born Sept. 11, 1958, in Valdosta, Ga., to Leighton and the late Betty Matthews Jackson.

He was a 1976 graduate of Charles M. Russell High School in Great Falls, Mont., and a 1981 graduate of the University of Tennessee.

Greg was a follower of Christ and a faithful member of Heritage Fellowship Church in Oak Ridge, where he was instrumental in starting the Band of Brothers men’s group.

Greg was employed as an insurance agent with American National Insurance Company, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid University of Tennessee fan. [Read more…]

Eldon Eugene Seeber

Eldon Eugene Seeber, age 79, a resident of the Frost Bottom Community, passed away Sunday, March 23, at his home.

Mr. Seeber was born June 10, 1934, in Devonia. At a early age, the family moved to Oliver Springs.

Eldon served his country in the United States Army. While serving, he received several medals, citations, and ribbons.

Before his retirement he was employed at the White Store Grocery, Galaxy Grocery, French’s Grocery, and Ace Hardware, all in Oliver Springs. Before he was drafted, he contracted for the U.S. Department of Energy. His hobby and greatest pleasure came from attending worship service, playing guitar, and singing in church. [Read more…]
