Joseph Billie Teague

Joseph Billie Teague, age 80, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Friday, March 13, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Teague was born July 20, 1934, in Greene County, Tennessee. He had lived in Coalfield for the past 39 years.

Joe entered into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his U.S. Army discharge, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He had a total of 21 years of military service, and he retired from the U.S. Navy achieving the rank of senior chief. While serving, he received several commendations including medals, ribbons, citations, and badges.

Following his move to Coalfield in 1976, he began employment at ORNL for Martin Marietta as an electrician. He received his second retirement from ORNL in 1996. [Read more…]

Valerie Anne Nickell, age 47, of Clinton, passed away Monday, March 9.

Valerie attended Grace Point Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, making crafts, and spending time with her grandkids. Valerie had a sweet spirit and was loved by everyone. She was preceded in death by her mother, Karen Dye.

Valerie is survived by her father, Mark Hutson; husband, Kenneth Nickell; sons, Kevin Nickell and wife Chelsie of Clinton, and Michael Phillips of Welston, Ohio; daughter, April Dillon and husband Allan of Knoxville; and grandchildren, Daemon Nickell, Brianna Dillon, and a grandson on the way. Kyle Richard Jackson, age 20, of Coalfield, passed away Wednesday, March 11, at Vanderbilt Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Kyle was a Christian and a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church, and he loved his church family.

Kyle is the son of Richard and Melissa Jackson and brother of Courtney Jackson. Kyle was a lifelong resident of Coalfield. He graduated from Coalfield High School in 2012 and was attending Roane State with plans to attend the University of Tennessee.

Danny Ray Hall, age 53, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, March 11, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Mr. Hall was born July 18, 1961, in Roane County. He was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs.

Before his disability, he was employed as a commercial builder in the construction business. His hobbies included fishing and four-wheeling on Windrock Mountain.

Alice Cecile Rankin vonBuelow passed away in her sleep early Sunday morning, March 8, 2015, at her home in Clinton, Tennessee, at the age of 84.

She was the wife of Carl Werner vonBuelow, with whom she shared four children and seven grandchildren. She was the last surviving of seven children born to French Warder Rankin and Mary Florence Scott.

Born in Springfield, Ohio, on February 10, 1931, she was the youngest of her six siblings: Samuel Harrison, Thomas Scott, Mary Louise, Edward Hayes, Dorothy Emily, and William French. Growing up in Springfield, she attended St Raphael’s parish church and school. [Read more…]

John Ward McKeever

John Ward McKeever, age 76, of Oak Ridge, died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, March 10.

He was born March 30, 1938, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of John Leslie and Norma Rymer McKeever, who preceded him in death.

John grew up in Green Bay, where his love of science was awakened by his sixth-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School; he always remembered and appreciated that.

His love of music was awakened by his mother who was a piano teacher and taught him until he excelled and needed a more advanced teacher. He learned to play the violin at a young age. Throughout his life, he played with many organizations: the Green Bay Symphonette, the Oak Ridge Community Orchestra, and the Oak Ridge Symphony.  [Read more…]

Randal Clayton Steelman, age 71, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, March 7, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Mr. Steelman was born October 19, 1943, in the Sunbright community in Morgan County. He and his family moved to Oak Ridge during his childhood. He moved to Oliver Springs in 1994.

Before his retirement in 1991, he was employed in the construction business at J. Daniels Construction Company. His hobbies included outdoor activities.

Randal was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin L. Steelman and Edna Lee Steelman; by a son, Tony Randal Steelman; by brothers, Pete, Jim, Ramey, and Roger Steelman; and by sisters, Zenna Hamby, Jewel Steelman, and Joyce Houston. [Read more…]
