Joseph Billie Teague, age 80, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Friday, March 13, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Teague was born July 20, 1934, in Greene County, Tennessee. He had lived in Coalfield for the past 39 years.
Joe entered into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his U.S. Army discharge, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He had a total of 21 years of military service, and he retired from the U.S. Navy achieving the rank of senior chief. While serving, he received several commendations including medals, ribbons, citations, and badges.
Following his move to Coalfield in 1976, he began employment at ORNL for Martin Marietta as an electrician. He received his second retirement from ORNL in 1996.
Mr. Teague loved his family, his church, his country, and the Coalfield community. He was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church, and he formerly taught the Adult Men’s Bible Class at both Kellytown Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He and his wife also enjoyed visiting the elderly at local nursing homes.
He was a member of the Coalfield Lions Club, the Coalfield Senior Citizens, and he also served on the Morgan County Election Committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Teague and Imogene Jones Teague; by a daughter, Maria de Las Angeles Teague; by a son, Joseph Billie Teague Jr.; by a sister, Christine Teague; by brothers, Phillip, Dale and Donald Teague; by his mother-in-law, Ruth Hamby; by a sister-in-law, Peggy Jones; and by his step-mother-in-law, Lois Napier Hamby.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Hamby Teague of Coalfield; by daughters, Lisa Marie Ogle of Nashville, and Katrina Moore and husband Gerald, of Coalfield; by a son Scott McPeters and wife Kyla, of Coalfield; by grandchildren, Ronnie Ogle of Nashville, Maegan Mooneyhan and husband Aaron, Zach Moore, Katelyn McPeters, and Levi McPeters all of Coalfield, Ricky Teague of Maryville, and by Caitlyn Wakefield, who was considered as a grandchild; and by great-grandchildren, Gracie and Marlie Mooneyhan.
Additionally, he is survived by sisters, Wanda Shealy and husband S.W., of Newberry, South Carolina, and Sandra Neal and husband Billy, of Greeneville, Tennessee; by his father-in-law, Fred Hamby of Coalfield; by sister-in-laws, Nelda Teague of Weatherford, Texas, Sheila Teague of Knoxville, Ann Lindsay and husband David, of Coalfield, Rita Brown and husband David, of Oceanside, California; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of special friends.
The family received friends Monday, March 16, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Corey Jones and Pastor Ronald Guthrie officiating. Burial and graveside services with full military honors immediately followed the funeral at Anderson Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mack Smith officiating.
