Sandra Lynn Angel, age 62, of Knoxville and formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Monday, Jan. 28.

Sandra was born Dec. 17, 1950, in Oak Ridge to the late Clarence and Alene Hatmaker Angel.

Wanda Faye Shadoan

Wanda Faye Shadoan, age 75, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, at Fort Sanders Specialty Select Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Shadoan was born May 17, 1937, in Scott County. She lived in California and Ohio before moving back to Tennessee in 1982.

Wanda Faye was a loving mother and grandmother, and she worshipped at the Old Time Missionary Baptist Church in Goshen, Ohio. She was employed as a greeter at Walmart for 10 years before her retirement. Her hobbies included outdoor activities around the lake. [Read more…]

Phyllis Lila Wichner

Phyllis Lila Wichner, 80, a native New Yorker and longtime resident of Oak Ridge, died at home early Saturday morning, surrounded by close family members after a short severe illness.

Phyllis is deeply missed by her husband Robert, daughter Robin, son Joel, sister Rosalind Benton, niece and nephew Michelle Clift and Bruce Benton, sister and brother in-law Suzanne and Phil Goldman, and nieces Jill Goldman, Nancy Resnik, and Andrea Cole.

She was a loving wife and mother, and for many years she was a co-owner of a specialty clothing shop in the Greenwich Village Mall.

She was a prolific and creative artist with a long-term involvement with the Oak Ridge Art Center. She will be missed by her many friends in the print-making group of the Oak Ridge Art Center, fellow members of the L.U.N.A. art group, and fellow bridge group members.

Louise Strickland Fairchild, age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, Jan. 25, at her home, while surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Fairchild was born May 3, 1932, in the Wheat Community in Roane County.

Louise graduated from the Oliver Springs High School in 1950. Following her high school graduation, she married her late husband of 61 years, Harold “Sonny” Fairchild.

She enrolled in the Knoxville Business College, and following her graduation, she was employed at the K-25 and X-10 federal plants in Oak Ridge as a clerical typist. She also served as bookkeeper of the Fairchild Trucking Company for 42 years. [Read more…]

Rayburn Seiber, age 67, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, at Parkwest Medical Center.

Mr. Seiber was born Aug. 19, 1945, in the New River community of Anderson County.

Rayburn was a retired coal miner. He enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, going to NASCAR races, and gardening. [Read more…]

Dallas Marshall Ricker

Dallas Marshall Ricker, age 63, a resident of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, Jan. 25, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Mr. Ricker was born on May 17, 1949, in Athens, Tenn. He moved to Oliver Springs during his early childhood and continued to live here until he was 13, when he moved to Columbus, Ga. He moved back to Oliver Springs in 1971.

Dallas was a Christian and he was saved at Moran Baptist Church. He was also a master at repairing anything. His family said, “If it could be made, Dallas Ricker could fix it.”

He co-owned and co-operated Davenport Tree and Landscaping. He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, and he also rode a Can-Am Spyder Motorcycle. He enjoyed fishing the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

Jeffery was born April 13, 1964, in Oak Ridge. He was a lifelong resident of Coalfield.

Mr. Byrge was a carpenter in the construction business. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Rheba Hackworth

Rheba Hackworth, age 71, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Jan. 24, at her home while surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Hackworth was born Sept. 21, 1941, in the Fork Mountain Community in Anderson County. She moved to the lower camp of Windrock Mountain in 1955. Following her marriage, she lived in Louisiana and Georgia before moving back to Oliver Springs in 1960.

Rheba was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and special friend to all that knew her. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Orchard View Baptist Church.

Before her retirement, she was employed at Roane Hosiery, J.C.Penney, Oliver Springs Flower and Garden, and Continuum Courtyards of Oak Ridge.

Frederick “Butch” Cox

Frederick “Butch” Cox, age 71, a resident of Riceville, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, at his home.

Butch was born Nov. 25, 1941, in Oliver Springs. He has lived in Riceville since 1967.

Butch was employed at Bowater in Calhoun, Tenn., for 35 years before his retirement in 2002.

Mr. Cox was a great story teller who possessed a wealth of knowledge of the early Oliver Springs families.

He enjoyed raising cattle, gardening, hunting, camping, and outdoor activities.

Margaret Ruth Kerr

Margaret Ruth Kerr, age 96, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Vitas Health Care Center in Stockbridge, Ga.

She was born June 10, 1916, in Absher, Mont., the daughter of Henry and Mary Jane Phillips Allan.

Mrs. Kerr retired from the University of Tennessee Agricultural Farm, where she was a librarian. She had also served as a board member of Clinch River Home Health Services.

She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and served as a volunteer for the Recording for the Blind, Campfire Girls and CONTACT. She played the piano for the Mello-Dears musical group and sang with the Sweet Adeline’s. She was an avid gardener and loved attending the wild flower shows in Gatlinburg.
