Doris “Dot” Dean Barnard

Doris “Dot” Dean Barnard, age 76, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

She was born Sept. 25, 1936, in Columbia County, Ark., the daughter of Nellie and Walker Barnett.

Mrs. Barnard attended Batley Baptist Church and Poplar Creek Baptist Church. In younger years, she was active with a CB Club and was known as Candy Cane. She enjoyed painting, crocheting cooking, playing the piano, singing, and flower arranging. She also enjoyed working in her yard and was known for her skills in landscaping.

Clarence Edward Turpin

Clarence Edward Turpin, age 77, a resident of Nashville, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, at the Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville.

Clarence was born Dec. 7, 1935, in the Wheat Community of Roane County.

He entered into the U.S. Navy on July 29, 1955, and served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1975. Following his basic training in San Diego, he was stationed on an aircraft carrier, USS Kitty Hawk. While serving, he received several medals, citations, ribbons, and awards and he served during the Vietnam War.

After his military discharge, he lived in East Tennessee, Ohio, and most recently in Nashville.

Frances Carroll, age 54, a resident of Powell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, at her home.

Mrs. Carroll was born Nov. 4, 1958 in Indiana, and moved to Tennessee at an early age.

Frances never met a stranger, and loved her family and friends very much. She enjoyed billiards, sunbathing, and fishing.

Arthur Clarence Taylor

Arthur Clarence Taylor, age 68, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Taylor was born July 26, 1944, in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Before his disability, he worked in construction as a carpenter and electrician.

He was a member of the Mineral Springs Baptist Church and his hobbies included fishing and billiards.

Arthur served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While serving, he received several medals, ribbons, citations, and accommodations, including an expert marksman’s badge.

Betty Stinnett Quillen Drown

Betty Stinnett Quillen Drown, age 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Methodist Medical Center.

She was born June 26, 1933, in Alcoa, the daughter of Guy and Katie Bell Stinnett. Mrs. Drown retired in 1991 from the City of Oak Ridge, where she was a switchboard operator and utility clerk for 30 years.

Mrs. Drown was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 390 and Amaranth, Chapter 26. She had also served as Mother Advisor for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls and served one year as Grand Mother Advisor for the State of Tennessee. Mrs. Drown was an accomplished pianist and played at many functions.

Deborah was a loving wife, and mother. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Deborah was a member of the Clinton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed teaching the bible.

Aileen Ridings Bennett

Aileen Ridings Bennett passed away Tuesday night, Dec. 11, 2012, at her home in Oak Ridge, her loving children and grandchildren by her side.

She was born Aug. 16, 1933 in Loudon, daughter of Frank Wells and Essie Maude Pope Ridings. She and our father, Duane W. Bennett, were married July 7, 1955. He preceded her in death Jan. 20, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son Matthew W. Bennett on Jan. 15, 2009.

Aileen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge and dearly loved each of her Yahweh Sisters. She was an accomplished author, loving mother, wife, aunt, and loyal friend.

Maurice Alton Woods

Maurice Alton Woods, age 74, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Dec. 9, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Mr. Woods was born Dec., 30, 1937, in Coalfield, Tenn.

Following his Coalfield High School graduation in 1955, he entered into the United States Air Force and served his country until 1959. After his military service, he moved back to Harriman, where he lived for a short time. He has lived in Oliver Springs for more than 50 years.

Mr. Woods retired from the Y-12 federal plant as a chemical operator in 1997.

Carolyn Joyce Stair

Carolyn Joyce Stair, age 72, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 27, 1940, in Thornhill, Tenn., the daughter of Von and Opal Hurst Farmer.

Mrs. Stair was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio, and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church when in Knoxville.

She graduated from the University of Tennessee and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Mrs. Stair was the owner/operator of the Small Fry Boutique in Uptown Westerville, Ohio, where the family resided for more than 30 years. As a teen and young adult, Mrs. Stair worked with her mother at the Nettie Lee Shop in Oak Ridge.

Bernadine Eleanor Elizabeth Moorehead, age 90, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born in Denver, Colo., on Aug. 14, 1922, to parents Francis and Lucille Ames Hynes.

She was a homemaker in Texas for many years before moving to Oak Ridge in 2011. Bernadine was a woman of great faith and she loved the Catholic Church. In recent years, she was unable to make it to Mass but faithfully watched services on television. She had a personality larger than herself and loved to make people laugh.

She was a homemaker, a mother, a grandmother, and a member of Beech Park Baptist Church.

Charlie Roach, age 87, of Clinton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 6, at NHC Healthcare in Oak Ridge.

Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed the holidays with his family. Charlie was an avid fox hunter all his life, loved his hound dogs and his hunting buddies. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. Charlie retired from Clinton Utilities Board after 45 years.
