The Oak Ridge City Council unanimously approved a no-tax-increase budget Tuesday that withholds about $766,000 from the school system.
The school’s money will be held in reserve until education officials transfer revenues raised under an Anderson County sales tax increase approved in 2006. That money will be used to help pay down the debt on the $66 million renovation of the Oak Ridge High School.

To be eligible, a student must have had at least a 3.5 grade point average while attempting 12 or more semester hours of college-level courses.

The five-member Oak Ridge Board of Education unanimously approved a balanced budget Thursday that cuts some staff positions but restores reading specialists.
The staff reductions include a technology technician, maintenance staff member, district-wide custodian, the full-time equivalent of 6.5 teaching assistants, and some teaching positions.

It’s still not clear why former Willow Brook Elementary School Principal Mardee D. Miller was removed from her job last week, but a letter released by the Oak Ridge school system Thursday provides a few details.
In the May 7 letter, Oak Ridge Superintendent Tom Bailey told Miller he was placing her on paid administrative leave after an investigation of “inappropriate treatment” of a student during state testing.
“I have come to the conclusion that I no longer have confidence in your ability to effectively or efficiently perform the duties of an elementary school principal in the Oak Ridge schools,” Bailey told Miller in the hand-delivered letter.
