Omega Plastics to expand in Clinton; invest $8.2 million, add 80 jobs

Omega Plastics will expand its corporate headquarters in Clinton, investing $8.2 million and adding 80 new positions in Anderson County, state officials and company executives announced Wednesday.

The expansion will add an extra 85,000 square feet, more than doubling the company’s current facility in the Carden Farm Industrial Park, a press release said. It said Omega Plastics is a world leader in “plastics extrusion molding solutions for prototype and low-volume production.”

The company supplies clients across the globe in medical, consumer packaging, automotive, and security and safety productions. [Read more…]

Clinton Kmart closing

Information from WYSH Radio

The Sears Holding Corp. has confirmed that the Kmart store in South Clinton will close sometime in mid-June, although a specific closure date has not been announced.

The decision was made after what company officials called an extended period of slow sales. The store will remain open to the public and plans to begin its liquidation sale on April 7.

The store had been in its current location since 1983.

Oak Ridge, Clinton companies receive training grants

Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis have awarded Incumbent Worker Training Program grants totaling $29,947 to Protomet Corp. in Oak Ridge and $25,000 to Techmer PM in Clinton.

“If Tennessee is going to become the number one location in the Southeast for high-quality jobs, then we must offer a well-trained workforce to employers,” Haslam said. “This kind of training grant not only helps educate workers, but also provides incentive to employers looking to relocate or expand in Tennessee.”

Since the program’s inception, Incumbent Worker Training grants have assisted more than 600 businesses by providing $14 million to train approximately 50,000 employees.

Anderson Chamber has ‘Buy Local Mob Scene’ on Saturday

The Anderson County Chamber of Commerce Business Retail Development Council is hosting the second in a series of “Buy Local Mob Scenes” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at ACE Hardware in Clinton.

The purpose of the “Buy Local” Mob is to help the community learn about Chamber members’ products and services.
