Marie Theresa “Terri” King, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, October 29, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born July 22, 1931, in Warwick, Rhode Island, the daughter of Arie Ploeger and Rose Choquet.

Terri received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Rhode Island in June 1954 and moved to Oak Ridge from Rhode Island later that year. [Read more…]

Nanna Lou McLemore

Nanna Lou McLemore, age 91, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, October 28, at NHC Health Care. She passed away four days before her 92nd birthday.

She was born October 31, 1922 in Persia, Tennessee, the daughter of Robert R. Coward and Maude A. Rowland Coward.

“Nan” was an avid bowler and belonged to several leagues. She worked at Mother’s Day Out programs and volunteered at NHC Health Care, where she entertained by putting on skits and visiting with patients. She was a devoted member of Robertsville Baptist Church and a writer of poems. She was very generous with her friends and family and helped with many charitable causes. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, who enjoyed her funny spirit and zest for life. [Read more…]

Barbara Marie Wingfield Dedrick, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 29, at the home of her daughter, Leslie Dedrick Haag, who resides in Sharpsburg, Georgia.

Mrs. Dedrick was born in Martinsville, Virgina, the daughter of Alonzo Washington Wingfield and Laura Delancey Wingfield.

She was a graduate of Martinsville, Virginia High School and attended Madison State College for Women, now known as James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. [Read more…]

She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Etta Austin; husband, Charlie Johnson; brother, Jimmy Austin; and sister, Jackie Sue Weaver.

Brenda is survived by her son, Larry Johnson and wife Kim of Oliver Springs; brothers, David Austin and wife Mary Lou of Clinton, Glenn Austin and wife Marie of Chattanooga, and Eddie Austin of Indiana; sisters, Pat Maxfield and husband Jay of Clinton, Kathy Hatmaker and husband Randall of Briceville; grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas; and her special friends, David and Rhonda Kesterson. Etta Phillips Patterson, age 95 , a resident of Harriman, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 28, at the home of her daughter Faye Russell, while surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Patterson was born December 26, 1918, in the Stainsville Community in Anderson County. She is a lifelong resident of this area.

She was primarily a homemaker; however, in the early years, she was employed at the former Whiteway Restaurant in Harriman and Palm Beach Textile Industries.

She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Big Mountain Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.  [Read more…]

“Three Yards to Glory”

Ernest Vernon Cosson, 88, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Monday, October 27.

He was born on February 23, 1926, to parents William Sydney Cosson and Elizabeth Smith Cosson in Morristown.

Known as “Baldy” by his hometown family and friends, Cosson excelled in sports in high school and college. At Morristown High School, he played on the varsity football team as a freshman. In his sophomore year, Cosson got honorable mention on the 1942 All-East TN team. Football was suspended in 1943 due to World War II, and Cosson did not play his junior or senior years.

Cosson was also a member of the Morristown High School basketball team in ’43 and ’44, and was named to first team All District in 1944, when the team was District Champions. [Read more…]

Louise “Lou” Green Fitzgerald, age 87, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, October 23, at the home of her daughter, Marsha Fitzgerald Smith.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was born December 18, 1926, in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Della Brummett Green, who both died young. She was raised in Burnside, Kentucky, by her aunt and uncle, Mary and Bill Huff.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was a longtime member of Robertsville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and her Aunt Mary and Uncle Bill, she was preceded in death by her sister, Clara “Jean” Fitzgerald, and grandson, Christopher “Neil” Smith. [Read more…]

She was born August 10, 1940, in Campbell County to the late Sherley and Edna Dossett Honeycutt of LaFollette. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christie Gail Young Campbell; four sisters, Thelma Honeycutt Posey, Dorothy Honeycutt Millett, Nettie Honeycutt Hill, and Betty Honeycutt Brown; one brother, Sherley Honeycutt Jr.; in-laws, John L. and Myrtle D. She was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, “The Lighthouse.” She was a faithful member of Lone Mountain Baptist Church of Andersonville. Patricia also loved spending time with family.

Bobbie Louise Shepherd

Bobbie Shepherd, age 75, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, October 21, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.

Bobbie loved boating, fishing, and cruising. She was a very giving person and loved to help others. She was a longtime volunteer at the Salvation Army and spent 25 years with the Holiday Bureau. Bobbie worked as a nursing assistant at Parkwest Medical Center and drove a school bus for Oak Ridge Schools before retiring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert Sr. and Pauline Johnson; brother, Johnny Johnson; and son-in-law Mike Bailey.  [Read more…]
