February Breakfast with the Legislators is Monday

The Tennessee General Assembly has been in session since January 13, and 1,513 bills were filed by the February 12 deadline. Committees are meeting, and legislators are discussing issues dealing with health, education, the judiciary, sales tax, firearms, and federal funding for K-12 programs.

Breakfast with the Legislators provides a forum to get to know key legislative decision makers and to ask questions on issues in state government.

The February Breakfast with the Legislators will be held on Monday, February 23, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Social Room of the Oak Ridge Civic Center, located at 1401 Oak Ridge Turnpike. A free continental breakfast will be served. [Read more…]

Brian Ford named MMCer of the Month for January

Brian Ford, an attendant in the Transport department at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge (MMC), was named the MMCer of the Month for January.

In his job, Ford transports patients to and from their tests, procedures, and rooms. He also assists with the “lift team,” which helps move patients in and out of their beds. He has been with Methodist since 2012.

Ford is described by manager Sheila Doughty as “compassionate and caring with all his patients.”   [Read more…]

AC Chamber luncheon to feature Techmer PM president

The annual Business Luncheon by the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce will feature Ryan Howley, president of Techmer PM, the company that President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden visited in January.

The Business Luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 20, at The Hollingsworth Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (Junior Achievement BizTown). The center is located at 2135 North Charles Seivers Boulevard in Clinton.

Obama toured part of the Techmer PM facility in Clinton before making a major announcement about the creation of a $250 million manufacturing innovation hub aimed at strengthening U.S. leadership in next-generation composite materials.

Donald Horace “Butch” Woullard Jr., age 54, of Maryville, passed away at home Sunday, January 25.

Butch was born in Oak Ridge and attended school at Linden Elementary, Robertsville Junior High School, and Oak Ridge High School.

He was the son of the late Donald H. Woullard Sr., of Maryville and Dorothy McGaha Bernander, of Oak Ridge.

Gilbert Allen Kelly, 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 30.

He was born to parents Earl and Margie Carver Kelly on December 7, 1929, in Rabun County, Georgia.

Gilbert served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He then became a carpenter with Martin Marietta Energy Systems. He also was a member of the Carpenters Local #50, where he actually taught his trade to others. [Read more…]
